A 69 and a 99 with a flake. You wouln'd need any heatwave to work up a sweat after those.

I suffer from heat intolerance due to a medical condition. Hopefully I won't end up in hospital. Already needed treatment a few weeks ago and this is forecast to be worse. I'll be sitting in front of a fan with the curtains pulled. Thankfully I'm on holiday for the next couple of weeks.

All joking a side I do feel sorry for people who suffer from extreme heat conditions and I do hope they will get through this heatwave without any major health issues.

Where is everyone? Around town is 50% populated than usual. I when for a drive to check out the talent, thin on the ground.

I'd say all the talent is at home bathing themselves in sun tan lotion.

    You're really showing your age!
The days of myself and the gal pals cruising through local villages hoping to catch a glimpse of some boys is like a memory from the famine.

Preparing to ignore all the "oh, it's very hot", "we need rain" etc. Usually from the same ones who complain that it's too cold, too wet or too windy.

Thanks OP, didn't realise it would get that hot. Have a little baby who's on antibiotics right now, so glad to have opportunity to prepare. Reserved a portable air con unit to pick up tomorrow so won't be concerned about him getting too hot.

I plan not to get sun burnt and enjoy the outdoors at the same time by mostly staying in the shade and talking only small doses of direct sunlight at at time, max 15 mins a number of times in the day with breaks inbetween. This strategy I used for the first time only this year during our last spell and it worked out very well. I didn't stay in the sun too long to get burnt but my skin certainly did benefit from the sun I got without ruining that benefit by getting burnt. Another benefit to doing this is one doesn't need to pile on all that horrible chemically sunscreen shtye. As the days progressed I found I could stay out in the direct sun a bit longer as the skin naturally builds up some immunity. Noting more dumb that staying out in the sun for hours and getting burnt (guilty).

I've a friend not yet fifty , diagnosed with skin cancer.
He's just had surgery to remove a growth from his face.He looks like he's been shot in the forehead after the surgery.

Nothing more dumb than staying in the sun for hours... You're dead right.

Well I'm not sure skin cancer in Ireland is caused predominantly by sun exposure : ). I'm not sure if you friend lives in Ireland. It's not the only cause of course. But it is a major cause of it in Australia.

I think the problem in Ireland and the UK is that most ppl don't tan anyway and it's as if those ppl don't realise it and they think if they spend hours out in the sun they will get one. A tan of course is a skin reaction to protect itself from the sun - that's why ppl in Africa are black.

As far a what looks attractive is concerned, there is this idea that if one has a tan or are light brown that this is the most desired look. Not for me, noone looks more attractive to me than if they are fit and healthy even if they are phasty white. I find tanned ppl look a bit plasticy and unnatural.

    I'll be honest here.

I work hard and train hard all week, my plans ~ train, load up on the Lidl's Parlenbacher and get fooking rat arsed.

Train Saturday (done a 5km Parkrun.ie this morning) and Sunday. Go to work feeling fooking chuffed with my efforts Monday.

And that's mu plan for the heatwave, get pished.

This thread is a real downer with all the "I have a condition" and cancer talk.

I've taken the duvet off! :)

As I work outside a big hat, factor 50, talc, regular breaks and lots of water will be the thing.

I don't know about the rest of you but here are some of the things I'm looking forward to:
Feeling like I'm walking through treacle
Pale limbs covered in sticky sun cream
Sweaty back from being in the car
    Sore feet from stupid sandals
Wearing those hideous skin coloured tights
    Electrocuted looking hair
    Shiny face
Being extremely tired and slightly weak

    Bring it on!!

    :pac:

I'm finally going to insist that the women in my office turn the setting on the office aircon from heat to cool. Hasn't been a day so far this year

The same as our last good spell a few weeks ago. Keep the garden tidy (filled the compost bin from empty yesterday), go for swims, wait, do that every week already, and work the other days, wait, do that already as well.

So it will be just like any other week.

Monday, rounding up sheep to take a draft of lambs for sale Monday night. Dose all remaining lambs, check for maggots etc. Kids sports day so have to go in to that for an hour.
Got 8 acres of grass cut that need turning as I'm going to make hay off it.
Need to fix a Hardy Spicer in the drive shaft of the tedder first

Tuesday, working with neighbour at their silage, school finished at 12, so have to be there to get kids off the bus.
Ted out that 8 acres again
Sheep to be housed because shearing tomorrow.

Wednesday. Shearing sheep. Going to be torture under a tin roof in this heat. Think along the lines of a four hour wrestling match with opponents built like Danny deVito......
Another 8 acres grass to cut, this time for silage.
Got to get to agri store for bale wrap and diesel at some stage.

Thursday, row up the hay, contractor supposed to come and bale both it and silage.
4 or 5 hours drawing in the bales.

Friday, don't know yet ..... but a pint will be welcome. Have to put a new clutch master cylinder into the avensis at some during the week, it's about 2 hour job, and a pig to get at up under the dash.
