BMW busted by guards on M7

Driving home this evening and at around 8:20 PM I was doing 140 and he flew past, easily doing 170-180 Km/h, few mins later I caught sight of squad in my rear view Mirror and it flew past me so knew she had caught him.

This was on M9 South after Kilcullen, so wherever she was hiding I didn't see her ffs, not even a glimpse out of the corner of my eye. And I would have passed her before the 5 Series.

The Guard caught pulled him over at the Carlow/Castledermot turn off.

I wonder , court appearance and fine ?

If they were doing that speed then surely its off the road, well it should be anyway

I'd expect it's a disqualification if the speed could be proven.

It's quite common to hear about UK footballers getting driving bans for 100mph (160kmph).

I know this isn't the UK..... But that's a ferocious speed.

Depends if he/she got caught with the speed gun. If not its just hearsay. Mad speed to be doing

Was driving back from Kilkenny to Dublin around that time and noticed a squad car parked halfway down the "on" sliproad on the far side.

Can't for the life of me remember where exactly as I'm not overly familiar with that road but I think it could have been around Kilcullen

Even 30 seconds later, good luck to her catching him.

Yeah could have been the bridge at Kilcullen, just shows the dirt the Guards have to drive if she only caught up with him at the Carlow/Castledermot turn off. , ridiculous !

If he's doing 170/180 she needs to be doing more to catch him especially from standing start. Could easily of taken till after athy and she might have wanted him off motorway to really bollick him and her own safety

    If no proof

    Nothing

    Just a telling off

In my crazy youth I was doing limited top speed of 250, didn't see mondeo blue lights

They met me parked outside chipper about 20 mins after it happened with questions, but did nothing, no proof

Said they were doing 200 and losing ground

Quessing that's the top speed of the mondeo

Hyundai they have, cant be much better

    It was

Even though its normal in Germany

It just feels wrong here, even on an empty motorway and a performance car designed for it

A couple of years back my new born had to go to crumlin in a hurry by ambulance. I followed on by car but not in convoy or anything. Did 160-170 most of the way from Limerick to Dublin. I was full sure I would be pulled at some stage but nothing. Luck of the draw I suppose if they are on the motorway. Don't see it too often.

Civic diesel tops out at 245. Not that far out of reach

I think the limit should be increased to 140 for certain newer motorways and 120 for Naas road N7.

M9 is easily good for 140.

Most of our drivers wouldn't be competent at driving at those speeds.

Maybe the Type R, no diesel Honda Civic does 245, unless seriously modified

Well too bad for them but there's a lot of motorway now well capable of those speeds.

Had something similar about 6 weeks ago. Wife was heavily pregnant, got up at 7 am to heavy bleeding and not feeling a baby. Home to the hospital door in 9 minutes in morning traffic, usually a 20-25 minute drive. Topped out at around 220kph in one section. An ambulance would have taken 30-40 minutes to get to us, so i made to call to go for it. Hazards on and flashing the headlights the whole way up, apologising with my hand as I passed/met cars.

95% of traffic saw me and moved, and hopefully understood nobody drives like that. The thought crossed my mind to call the guards and ask for an escort but it was faster to get on the road.

It all worked out in the end though, our little fella arrived 3 weeks early 3 weeks ago. Given the circumstances if I had to do it again I would, but would call the guards first to advise them of my upcoming lunacy!

Meh. I think the limits need to be increased. Whenever I drive in Ireland 120 feels incredibly slow, especially as I live in germany where I usually floor it and drive between 180 & 220 depending on the car.
