My other half is picking up her new car in a few weeks. (Skoda Karoq). What would you guys recommend for best protection when it's home. I've asked the dealer not to wash the car before it's collected which he wasn't too keen on. I had been told that it will probably still need a machine polish and to then have ceramic applied.

Do what vectra did to his Mondeo.

If you don't have the time or gear needed look up detailers.

If you want to go the ceramic route I'd definitely get some form of machine polishing done, not only will it clean the paintwork to have a perfect bond for the ceramic but modern paint straight from the factory is quite "dirty" for lack of a better word and even a cleansing/jewelling polish on a machine will sort that out.

It was originally intended as a "gap fill job" but it worked out great so made a decision to continue using this.

Sure i've sold it all on now :p

Nah, tis google photos. I've it in a public folder, but I can never get it right. It briefly shares the photo to the public, then blocks it.

Who knows, maybe this image will stick around for longer?

    Are they chrome?
    Stainless?
    Got any pic of them?

Autosol, fine wire wool depends on type.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,444 ✭✭✭Wailin

Not chrome just the standard twin tips on the f10 535d.

It's a chrome cover welded on.

Fine wire wool, autosol will actually scrub it up also and give it a lovely shine.

Thanks, stuff can be got in halfords i think so will give it a shot tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,444 ✭✭✭Wailin

Actually, would the fine wire wool not leave loads of small scratches on the metal? Would sandpaper be better?

Sand paper no not good for that.

Fine wool won't and just use it to get heavy off.

    Autosol works wonders.

Try autosol on is own first
I have a phobia about using steel wool on chrome.

I've used on motorbike exhaust and car didn't cause any issue but saying that they were caked with soot.

    Autosol may well be enough.

Wailin - are you sure those tips aren't black from the factory? They look to me to be black rather than just dirty shiny chrome if you know what I mean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,444 ✭✭✭Wailin

I think they are black too MM, others seem to think chrome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,920 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

I've often seen black tips on the 535s. Instead of steel wool, use a cotton pad with metal polish. I would advise maybe trying to clean/wash them first though as metal polish *could* strip the black off them. No experience with them myself but just in case.
