So what kind of attendance are we looking at?

4,000 odd season ticket holders plus the other hard core supporters.

Not too sure how many Limerick supporters will attend? They might keep their money in their pocket for the hurling.

Football is a long way behind the rugger and hurling in the affections of the Treaty county folk.

Do they play GAA in Blackrock?

My nephew's went to Belvedere, their hurling and football was all just with the club as the school didn't allow GAA.
They listed of some of the lads in their class, about 4 years ago they would have had a very good minor team.

    What is not transparent exactly?

Why is a quarter final ticket dearer than a semi final ticket?

Mayo News Football Podcast 2018 The Qualifiers Draw

    http://themayonews.podomatic.com/enclosure/2018-05-28T21_25_31-07_00.mp3

The draw for Round 1 of the qualifiers has been made and in it Mayo have been paired with Limerick. We've only met the Shannonsiders once before in the championship, also in the qualifiers back in 2002 when we prevailed with just a point to spare, but the Gaelic Grounds is a venue Mayo supporters now know well. With the M17 open from Tuam,it's also a location that'll be easy for the large travelling fanbase to reach on Saturday week.In this latest edition of the Mayo News football podcast we look at the qualifier draw and what it means for Mayo.Host Rob Murphy and John Gunnigan of the Mayo GAA Blog get us going by looking ahead to another summer on the road, following which Oisin Langan gets Stephen Rochford's reaction to the qualifier draw.Mayo News columnist Billy Joe Padden provides his thoughts on taking on Limerick and he also casts his mind back to the Galway defeat and what we can learn from that setback.Meanwhile, back at Mayo News HQ in Westport, the round table discussion featuring Mayo News regulars Mike Finnerty,Edwin McGreal and Ger Flanagan involves a detailed dissection of this first backdoor test facing the county in this year's championship.

If this is true its an absolute disgrace. Did Shane Ross just secure a huge lotto grant for a hockey pitch at this school. And they ban GAA.
Just imagine if a school around the country decided to ban rugby or soccer..!! Joe Duffy would have a field day.
This sickening s###e needs to be highlighted big time.

Limerick will do well to have a 1,000 supporters, and in fairness that's just because its Mayo are the opposition. Many Limerick people see Mayo footballers as the equivalent of Limerick hurlers, been so close but cant get over the line, and can never buy a lucky break when it could matter most.
It the game was played out in Newcastlewest it would attract a fine Limerick crowd as the support base is back West. Many of these will simply not travel into the city on a Saturday evening for a game, which with all due respect is a foregone conclusion.
How we would've loved to get this draw 10 years ago when we had a team pushing Kerry and Cork to the very limits in Munster with both these teams going on to win A.I.'s with consummate ease afterwards.

TBH it doesn't bother me, if parents want to send their kids to that school so be it.

How does a school "ban" a sport? I assume they just decide not to initiate or promote any school teams in certain sports.

Rugby and Soccer were "banned" in my school, as was beach volley ball. It was a GAA School with a little bit of Basketball thrown in, as were the majority (GAA mainly). The GAA was ok with that and do fairly well out of lotto funding in general.

I've always had a soft spot for the Limerick and Waterford hurlers as I've always thought their quests had very similar parallels to our own. Both counties have produced some great teams down through the years but unfortunately couldn't get over the line.Their respective droughts aren't quite of the same order as ours.

That Limerick football team was hexed to never win a Munster football title,John Galvin would have walked onto any team.

Waterfords last success is only 8 years more recent than ours.

Why is a quarter final ticket dearer than a semi final ticket?
A quarter final is a double header plus a minor game before hand.

A semi is one game plus the minor match.
