But do you really need twitter? Or are you capable of existing without it? Because if you are, they why in the name of Gawd do you give a tuppenny fuck about what some unknown airhead with the IQ of a tomato tweets about anything under the sun? Seriously?

Forget about twitter and live your life.

I don’t use twitter or Facebook, though I’ve read some of the stuff linked here and that’s more than enough.

That would be a decent enough move for Jackson in terms of putting everything behind him. I assume he would play in the NPC this year and then seek a move to the Super Rugby side for next season? It takes him far away from the situation here and, whilst the money won't be fantastic, he'll continue to play at a high level (if he's contracted to a Super Rugby side) which will help maintain his market value if he can then return to Europe.

In fairness I use Twitter rarely myself but you'd have to pretty much avoid the internet completely to not have seen the vitriol directed at Jackson (mainly) and Olding during and after the trial

Twitter has its uses, so for many its not a case of just "forgetting about it". And sponsors have clearly been heeding reaction on it

Anyway its refreshing to see all the well wishes directed at Stuart yesterday and I hope he goes on to have a stellar career. Given the positive reaction and if he can stay fit and return to his old form, as well as stay out of any trouble which I'm sure he will, I can definitely see him getting a big money move or contract renewal in 2 years

Jackson is a lot trickier. Moving to NZ would absolutely make sense but he has a long way to go before he would be considered by a big club in Europe I'd imagine. But if he can keep the head down and do some good off the field, and of course return to form of old, then maybe his market value will rise in time. Again I hope this development is true, and that he too can go on and have a stellar career

From a rugby perspective it would be extremely interesting to see how he develops. 3 or 4 years down there and he could become a very interesting option for a side in the NH (although very very unlikely that'll be in Ireland).

Even for the Indo, that is flimsy as bejaysus. Gibbes "may investigate the possibility" - what does that even mean?

Going to the far side of the world to play for peanuts in a semi-pro competition would be a serious come down.

Well a lot of the stuff that's posted here from twitter is team announcements, signing announcements, video clips of great bits of play and other news and rumours.

If I'm not in a position to watch a match (and that goes for AIL matches too), twitter is my go to app to keep up with the scores.

You have to go looking for the other crap. That's on you if you do.

Anyone I follow on twitter are news outlets, personal friends and acquaintances

I like to scroll the odd time on the bus or if I have a few minutes free or whatever - it's incredibly handy to quickly catch up on any news

If someone I follow even likes an anti PJ/Olding rambling on Twitter it shows up on my news feed, so it's pretty much impossible to avoid

Unless of course I followed no-one really, which would be lovely and sociable

It was the sponsor of Sale's stadium that kicked up about Jackson and Olding wasn't it?

Someone else said it here, Olding came out at the end of the trial much better than Jackson did, and is better off out on his own. Jackson's made his own mess.

Despite the fact I don't hold either in high regard because of their blatant mistreatment of the woman in question, Olding at least acknowledged that she wasn't happy with what went on even if he disagreed with her perception of the night. He sounded like he regretted it for a number of reasons and not just the impact it's having on his own career.

He's signed for a club now, and I wish him well.
"The BBC reported that investment firm AJ Bell aired their concerns over the transfer speculation to director of rugby Steve Diamond, however, a spokesman for the company denied that they objected to the move.
"We contacted the club to discuss the uncertainty created by the rumours. No more than that," the Investment Firm said in a statement.
"It is totally wrong to say we objected to the move."
As above, I think this was totally exaggerated/overplayed, as has pretty much every reaction since the trial concluded.

TBH I am relieved this rugby season has finally finished. Very mixed emotions on probably the best ever season in Irish history (Grand Slam & Leinster's double) being tainted (for me) by the worst season in Ulster's history, both on & off the pitch. Hopefully Jackson & Olding can now be allowed to move on & try to rebuild their careers.......

It's pure speculation, Gibbes is the new Waikato coach so that's where they're making the assumption that he'll look at bringing Jackson in.

It doesn't sound like there's any substance behind it at all other than them just saying it could be a possibility.

Thank you for posting that quote. I knew I had read a denial from the Sale sponsors. I think it was Prawnsambo who wanted me to post it...well there you go...wheeker did it for me

They're only directly below the tweets when you tap on the tweet. You don't need to do that if you're only interested in what the origiinal tweet says.

And you have to be following someone who tweets on the subject that arouses the ire of the great mass of the unthinking.

Wasn't it great for that few weeks where we were just talking about Ulster Rugby?

When's the last time we had something positive to talk about.... Pr band wagons scraping the barrel constantly! we need some signings and a CEO to step down. Clarification on when we'll actually have a coach? and the list goes on.

Back room staff confirmed and announced in next few weeks.

    NOT CEO

    EDIT** an assistant coach

What’s worrying is the lack of even credible rumours of signings. Ulster need to be busy in the transfer market and there seems to be very little happening.

    Outs
    Callum Black
    Robbie Diack
    Paul Marshall
    Paddy Jackson
    Stuart Olding
    Tommy Bowe
    Andrew Trimble
    Jared Payne
    Charles Piutau

    In
    Marty Moore
    Jordi Murphy
    Will Addison

That list of outs in the backs would make you cry.

Team for next season...as it stands...

    1 Andy Warwick
    2 Rory Best
    3 Marty Moore
    4 Alan O'Connor
    5 Iain Henderson
    6 Jordi Murphy
    7 Sean Reidy
    8 Marcel Coetzee
    9 John Cooney
    10 Johnny McPhillips
    11 Jacob Stockdale
    12 Stuart McCloskey
    13 Darren Cave
    14 Craig Gilroy
    15 Will Addison

    Bench
16 Rob Herring, 17 Kyle McCall, 18 Tom O'Toole, 19 Kieran Treadwell, 20 Jean Deysel/Nick Timoney, 21 Dave Shanahan, 22 Angus Curtis, 23 David Busby

With Marshall and Ludik out for some time we need to sign up to outside backs. Otherwise we will be flogging teenagers like Curtis, Hume and Kernohan. Curtis looks well able for it, but the other two are complete unknowns at this level.

As for signing we’re litterally 1 or 2 injuries from another season wrecked before it begins! Do we know how bad Deysel injury is?

Still need a loosehead, 2nd row, back up scrum half, outhalf, centre/wing. If anything we’re nearly worse than last season, bar Jordi!

I really don’t think Moore will hold the starting tight head slot!

The squad is really, really thin. Ulster get a pass on the 10 situation because this was not a mess of their own making, but all the other positions should have been filled long ago.

I agree with the last bit. I think by the end of the season O'Toole may own the TH spot, but he is very young. Kane was going well too before he got injured. That said a motivated Moore will be a great addition.

Even just numbers wise it's cutting it close.

I hope for Ulster's sake that it isn't left too late with players brought in simply to make up the numbers.

The outside backs situation is actually a serious crisis now...worse than Korea

    These are our outside backs

    Centres
    McCloskey
    Cave
    Marshall
    Curtis

    Wings
    Gilroy
    Stockdale
    Lyttle

    Full Back
    Addison
    Ludik
    Busby

That's 10 outside backs in our squad (not including Academy players) two of whom have serious knee injuries, one who doesn't look good enough (sorry Busby), and one who is 19 years old.

    Have I forgotten anyone?

    That isn't sustainable at all.

As you say Jackson/Olding is out of our control, but they knew Charles was leaving, they knew Bowe was retiring some time ago, they probably had a good idea Payne was gone.

Personally I'd be begging Trimble to rethink his retirement. There is something odd about the way he has finished up.

Agreed! Kane is very good, just worries me he’s goes down injured a lot! O’toole Could seriously challenge this year! Hopefully Moore will be pushed by the competition!

As for the backline, Addison can cover centre, wing, fullback. But to be fair i’d Prefer he locks one position down! Instead of juggling him about.

How times have reversed with forward/back stocks.

Got the impression Trimble had a falling out with management.

Looking at the backs situation it's a pity that Rory Scholes left when he did. He seems to have faded into obscurity at Connacht. He moved to Edinburgh a few years too early, they were a shambles when he went there.

Ulster could probably do with an ROM type player to add depth.

He left on a High and just disappeared! Never understood why he wasn’t clawed back! He’s resigned with Connacht!

Throw him and McCallister in and you already improve the squad! Wonder what Whittens contract situation is?

I don't think it's depth we need, we have players you could consider backups. We need some real quality; we are very light in the back three. We won't get another Piutau but we need someone closer to that standard than another squad filler type.

That said, it seems unlikely we'll get anything of a good standard at this stage, so we might have to just take what we can get. But really we're one or two injuries away from being in big trouble.
