Window boxes rotting windowsill paint

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on this. I have plastic window boxes (with drainage holes) on my outside window sills, but this seems to be rotting/damaging the paint and I have to repaint them every year. Is there something I could put down under the window box?

I always have drip trays under my boxes so no water gets to or lies on the window sill.
