And yes the UK has clinics but it has already been stated that innireland it will be GP based hence no need nor market for clinics.

GP's have not been consulted on this
I suspect many won't touch this - Prescribing a medication to abort a healthy baby will be difficult
They are perfectly within their rights to insist on a UK type system which has a dating scan and is done in Specialist Clinics.
The Government want this done cheaply and out of sight

Some of these tallies coming back are truly surprising. In Dublin all the ballot boxes are coming back at over 70% yes. Rural places in Clare coming in around 60% yes. I never expected to be such a decisive yes.

I love this, my post was apparently nonsense yet it immediately drew a shower of stuttering replies. Remember, just because abortion is in doesn't mean it won't ache in the bones of those who do it. It is killing your own child and it will have horrific consequences to your mental health. Who won again?

David Quinn was suggesting both sides were surprised how big of a yes vote there seems to be.

So what? Only needs a small number to make the system work.

Well as a yes voter I think the “distract distract, look over there” approach that many yes campaigners took, helped by many in the media, worked well.

That's rich. Wasn't that the defacto argument for Savethe8th? ENGLAND ABORTION NUMBERS, OVER THERE, BABIES, ICELAND MURDERING PEOPLE DOWNS SYNDROME, LOOK, LOOK, LOOK AT THESE PICTURES.

Yes supporters repeatedly told how the 8th affected them. LIES!!!!
Yes supporters repeatedly told how the 8th affected others. WRONG!!!!
Yes supporters repeatedly told how abortions happened anyway. HARD CASES!!!!!11!11!

For what it is worth, I was telling people since the RTE debate that there would be 20 points and more in it for Yes.

I am not suprised with this result. Ireland is a changed place. Scandal after scandal has seen to that.

    Yes voter here.

I abhor abortion or the thought of it but weighing everything up the 8th ammendment to the consitiution was not the way to deal with the reality of abortion in 2018.

I held my nose and voted Yes.

But seriously the triumphalism and spite towards tho No side by here is way OTT.

The Yes side won and won well, so why not leave it at that.

I think most, probobly from past experience, thought that the silent fundamentalist Catholic vote may come out in force on election day.

Happily that vote seems to be in a steep decline and long may it continue.

Ok come on, how much detail about what happens during an abortion do you need? Nobody on the Yes side was trying to distract from it. In fact the stories on the In Her Shoes page were very detailed. Many posters here described what their abortions or miscarriages were like. And though I've never had an abortion my miscarriages worked in the same way as a medical abortion, so I can fill you in on anything you think has been hidden from you. Except you know we haven't distracted and hidden, we have been incredibly open and honest. So many very brave women laid open moments that should have been private for absolute public consumption. So don't dare say they didn't. It's a lie and you, I and everyone else knows it.

No 'seems' about it. It is now redundant as a force. Happy days!

When you've had years of abuse and name calling by the pro life side as I and others who travelled have then I think it's perfectly acceptable to feel vindicated. So far I've had two messages from people saying the vote changes nothing and I'm still a child killer. They had no problem voting for women to stay pregnant, they don't deserve my consideration.

I don't think that is triumphalism. That is relief.

The Sword of Damocles that has being hanging over the heads of Irish women for 35 years is about to be removed.
Words cannot describe how that feels.
It's world changing for women in Ireland.
    So yes, there is joy.
A joy tinged with sadness because today 9 women will still travel.

The same as Michael Healy Rae, the FF TD in Roscommon said that, with this mandate and decision of the people, the legislation would be enacted.
So also Michael Martin is not in trouble on this.

On that note I am off to enjoy the day outside.

Well done to all who have worked so so hard to right what was a terrible wrong and have removed the 8th.

To the No side - try to see what really happened here, it is not the end of the world, just a timely and right, fair and mature adjustment.

The celebrations will be for the effort put in over the last years finally coming to a head. It's well worth the celebration after the hardship and campaigning put in.

And celebrating the choice & equality aspect of yesterday's vote. That's why I'm celebrating, and why I wouldn't be surprised to see people on the streets doing similar. They did it for SSM and this is a much bigger step towards equality.

The second post in the original thread is wonderful as well - mistakenly thinking there's going to be no repeal referendum and having a good lol at how it's a shame that all those repeal jumpers and badges are going to have no use.

Well there you go, 14 months later and we can actually bin them now.

    We will agree to disagree

There is nothing 'simple' about these pills.
Women need back up both physical and emotional.
The UK has the safest system with all care given in Specialist Clinics.
If majority of GP's through the IMO say no to aborting healthy babies pre 12weeks on safety and ethical grounds what happens then??
    (I voted yes)

The fact that Declan Ganley pumped a few quid into their campaign and wanted his buddy to have the job perhaps?
