And yet, it hadn't even occurred to you until I mentioned it. So maybe your pub napkin calculations about what numbers Ulster should be producing are blunt, at best.

I don't disagree. Ulster should be producing more. But there have been periods when Leinster didn't produce enough - unfortunately there were no internet forums then for Ulster fans to metaphorically wring their hands on.

You're talking absolute gibberish! (My family is from Fermanagh/Down anyway!)

EDIT: For what its worth I'm from a mixed marriage and the only place I ever got stick for playing a "British protestant" sport was in Dublin. If you think that is a uniquely Northern Irish thing then you don't really know what you're on about. http://www.indymedia.ie/attachments/feb2007/whizz.jpg

Yet no-one mentioned it. If you're looking at numbers prepared to play the sport, it's a major factor in the North.

let's keep politics of the north out of this.

    So back to ruggers.
We've basically lost Marshall & Ludik now for next season. The troubles & turmoil have started already for next season.
We've signed Iwan Hughes into the academy.

Seems a bit disingenuous, as it's directly related to Ulster Rugby, and not mentioning it for convenience's sake skews the conversation about the province.

But I understand your reservations and will shut up about it now.

So Addison will more a less replace Ludik, shame though as Ludik absolutely bleeds Ulster.

Cairns to step up? Any others in the academy? Don't know much about Hughes.

Really can't see the chance to sign anyone now

    Think Cairns is gone?

What fit senior backs do Ulster have for next season?

I agree that it is cyclical and ulster will be bad for a couple of years as a result.

Erm... Cooney, Stewart, McPhilips, Stockdale, McCloskey, Cave, Addison, Nelson and Lyttle.

Gilroy and technically Busby is on a senior contract too ...

Can we get some NIQ injury loans as well IRFU??? Pretty please?

Issue being Cooney could potentially be gone on international duty, add injuries and we’re truely frcked. Addition has bad injury profile also I think. We’re really gonna have to manage rotation and academy players and prey for no injuries.

Interesting to see if Nelson with continued gametime at full back can actually lock the position down,

So Munster nearly have more Ulster men in their backline then Ulster ;)

    Shanahan?

That’s not enough backs to last a full campaign, Ulster will require a very active recruitment campaign. Are there any rumors of inbound players?

Apparently Instontians have Paul Marshall as player coach for next year.

We have 3 academy centres who could get an opportunity next season in Hume, Curtis and Butler. I believe butler is 6"5"

Yeah, Gilroy and Busby, as pointed out earlier, but I think Shanahan, like Cairns, is away?

So then a 9,10 some sort of Centre and at least one back three but probably two are required.

Ulster have lost their Physio Gareth Robinson after 18 seasons with the club!

If only Ulster were just careless! Sounding like a complete back room change, Strength & Conditioning getting a change us as well.

I'm not getting into individuals because I've no idea who is good and who isn't behind the scenes, but Ulster seem to have suffered more injuries than many other sides...maybe it just feels that way.

Sounding like that's the rational. Just seems like it's endless at Ulster.

I think in fairness, fans of every province think they are the worst for injuries. My brother is convinced all the S&C staff at Leinster should be fired, as we have according to him, the worst injury profile. I reckon it’s just you pay more attention to your own team and notice the injury woes more. I’d say across the board it’s probably fairly similar for all professional teams.

Tbf Ulster have had a shocking amount of high profile Acl injuries? Payne, Olding x2? Coetzee, now Marshall? Then look at the amount of leg injuries in general?

I know there was research done at Leinster at one stage regarding hamstring injuries and high volume.
