FR appears to have recognised the 5 flights from IAD-DUB on GEY but none of the 5 flights DUB-IAD. Strange one.

FR has similar issues with flights operated by EI-CJX

    IAD
    Dep - Scheduled 12.30, Actual 12.56
    Arr - Scheduled 15.30, Actual 16.00

FR have the departure as 13.27 so obviously they dropped the ball on this one.

My friend arrived safe, and said they were about 30mins late alright.

Around 30 mins taxi from stand to actual takeoff is about right.

Local news article about it here. EI146, the return, still hasn't left. It was EI-GAJ, the second to newest A330-300 in the fleet.

Bear in mind that airline timetables quote push back times on stand and arrival times on stand, while FR quotes take off times and landing times.

They will never match as one includes taxi time at the two airports and the other doesn’t.

    EI146 was subsequently cancelled.

Thats a horrendous stand for a widebody.

Didn’t a baggage trailer cause damage to an AL plane at SFO last year?

So under the EU regulations, do EI now become responsible for paying every passenger that is impacted by this incident over the next couple days?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭basill

Can't see why not. Then give the bill to the accountants who will send it to the SFO handling agents who in turn can claim from their insurance company. Then it becomes one big blame game between all the parties involved.

If the tractor driver is employed by SFO I imagine their insurance picks up, and any consequential costs ( hiring in etc) are also theirs. Does look very tight for an 330 aircraft. Those KLM guys carrying out the repairs didn’t look too happy, I’d guess the connections at the wing-tip are well off line.

EI have a spare 330 on tue thurs and sat , down time for scheduled checks in hangar or schedule recovery so no issue today

Do EU regulations even apply on a flight from the USA...?

They apply to all flights operated from within the EU; and also to those to the EU operated by an EU based airline.

    Didn't realise that...

I would think exceptional circumstances comes into play here in terms of compensation payouts - "unexpected flight safety shortcomings"

Passengers will likely be given full refunds, 200 EI voucher and hotel/meals etc.

Really? Could that not be used in all cases of mechanical issues with an aircraft then?

Nope, I strongly suspect this incident will not require payout. They will even have certification from Airbus to back up an exceptional event. Crashing an aircraft is not an everyday thing.

Last year bird strikes have also been ruled as extraordinary circumstances.

If they take that view that'll probably be the way. They'd need some passenger to push very hard to give a payout.

Better defined extraordinary circumstances are needed from the EU tbh, leaving an EU directive so open to interpretation won't help the consumers it hopes to protect.

As a goodwill gesture I would passengers as much as I could, with somebody else footing the bill, even better.

They will, full refund and 200-250 future EI flight voucher as the goodwill gesture. You will still be 600-800 quid better off depending on how much you paid for flight. This is what usually happens for US flight issues in such events.
