Maria would be well able to argue the No side on her own. Ronan's a liability for them.

Is Ronan Mullen a failed Priest

No he now feels he is God with the ability to forgive the sinners who travel abroad.

He is a great asset to the Yes campaign

My dad was on the fence until now but I think Ronan Mullen's comments have actually moved him to a yes vote.

Get him a repeal jumper quickly.

I don't agree with abortion aside from the 'hard cases'.

So, how can you vote for something you don't agree with? We all know abortions increase when it's legislated for, it changes the culture. Drink driving is unacceptable now socially, but it was only in the very recent past where it was rampant.

But, I don't agree that a woman shouldn't have bodily autonomy and integrity either.

    So....what to do?

On a world wide scale, abortion rates don't change significantly when abortions are made legal (when you account for estimates of all the illegal abortions).

The reason hard cases exist is because of the 8th. It's not so much a case of hard cases make bad laws, but that bad laws have made hard cases. Vote Yes, and you can lobby the government for changes. If you vote No, there will be no changes, and the hard cases will still suffer.

Compulsory would suggest everyone would be forced to have an abortion. Talk about emotive language.

That's my point. They're using emotive language to make it sound like people will unable to choose NOT to have an abortion.

I think of all groups involved in this campaign, that TFMR have the most eloquent of speakers - each and everyone of their representatives have spoken clearly, calmly, rationally and logically.

    Indeed.

RTE didn't allow them to speak a single word last week on Claire Byrne.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

Jaysus Doherty is really good tonight as is O'Gorman. Steen looks rattled and Mullen is really putting both feet in his mouth at this stage.

I think Steen pissed off PK so he is being tougher on the no side.

Ronan confirms that you can't trust anyone who wears a vest, especially in this heat

He must think its a sin to have your nipples showing

He comes across as someone that's afraid to be naked under his clothes. He's a bit of a tobias funke

that was disgusting by Mullen. What an arrogant deluded preacher

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, what did he say?

    What did he say?

Woman gives a harrowing account of having an abortion in England.

Ronan responds with her deserving love etc. "regardless of what you've done"
Whatever side you're on, that comment was poor form and not needed. His fellow no campaigner didn't look impressed. It confirms why I don't listen to him on any issue when watching the Seanad live feed.

You should jump on the Yes bandwagon and do what's popular, your beliefs don't matter if they clash with the Yes campaign and you have no right to have them. Having your beliefs probably means you're a lot of unpleasant things by extension, how dare you exist.

What on earth are you talking about?

Do your own homework on what happens to abortion rates in countries where it has been legalised over time.

Compare with rates in countries where it is illegal.

You may be surprised given your assumptions

    (WHO has stats on this)

It should be an offence to canvas outside a train station disturbing the flow of people going about their daily lives.

You're making a point about emotive language being used by the No side by using even more emotive language and suggesting they used it themselves when they didn't.
Compulsory abortion is some kind of distopian nightmare and nobody is stupid enough to suggest that is one the table.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,682 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Why are some on the No side giving the impression that abortion will be compulsory come Saturday morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,765 ✭✭✭AllForIt

If I were a No campaigner I wouldn't be too happy with Ronans gaff there in relation Saoirse in the audience.

Colm made a good point there about so called 'social abortions'. Turned the derogatory phrase on it's head.

That Steen is an obnoxious aloof calculating barrister. If she asked me to vote NO to save my own life I'd vote yes just to spite her.
