Got a extortionate (imo) quote from Windsor Raheny for replacing damaged condenser (plus I had the joy of paying €102 euro for diagnostic check to confirm what I knew as I had it regassed).   Any ideas on alternative installation ?

P.s. They also quoted €260 for service (cos the service light told them........ had the car fully serviced last month with < 1000km since - surely they would know by checking the oil !)

How much for the new a/c condensor?

p.s. A specialist might be better value - http://www.autoaircon.ie/ or similar.

Once the system is degassed, a good indepent mechanic should be able to replace the condenser. It's essentially a small radiator with an inlet and outlet. I certainly wouldn't go near an main dealer for that type of work unless the car was under warranty.

Erm.. was the service interval reset when you had it serviced?

If not then whomever serviced it was at fault, would you not agree?

It was serviced at an independent place .......I assume they wouldn't have the tool for that ?

Rang them and he said they don't provide parts - only service/regas

Well then why are you bringing your vehicle there!?!

All cars have ECU's these days and YES all cars need diagnostics run / reset at service time. Any 'decent' Independent garage will have these tools and should be using them.

Sounds like your independent fella is half baked

But this guy is cheap so he must be good?

Checking the service light is an awful lot more accurate than checking the oil visually if the maintenance schedule of the car is kept correctly on it, particularly with a diesel.

Anyway, yeah a main dealer wouldn't be the place to go but seeing as you were already using a low rate independent I would have expected you to be aware of that? Genuine question but why is he/ they not doing the air con condenser?

Any decent independent workshop should be able to take on this job, most places have the equipment for air con work these days. I'd be surprised if the condenser isn't available on the aftermarket too.
