I haven't changed my opinion on this matter since I was a teenager. Before that, I was brainwashed by my mother, who is bananas.

Is anyone ever influenced by a poster on a pillar ever ? Are there actual people who look at a poster and think " Oh , I will vote No/ Yes because I saw a poster with Yes or No on it "

It's influenced me as I now know that the people who are putting up the no posters are mental cases

With the 8th in place, there are a lot of people that you might have known, that aren't there.

A lot? If it were a lot we'd have heard about them.

are the Edgelords voting Yes or No? I imagine its a begrudging 'Yes' but damn sure won't be happy about the "SJW's" celebrating.

It's fair to say you haven't a bulls notion what the topic is actually about. So no, I'm not explaining **** to you.

And there are a lot of women who the 8th directly effects but hey screw them right?
Ya know I don’t get the whole “there’s a lot of people who wouldn’t be around today had the 8th not been in place” thing. I mean grand, if that’s how you feel. But you are saying that with the benefit of knowing them and them having lived. Had they not lived you’d never know any different. And their mothers had a choice, and chose to keep them. I know people who will be voting No and who will be marking that box as a way of easing their conscience that they are doing their part in saving all the babies, but in doing that they’re playing a massive part in increasing the burden in an already demanding decision. I just think Irish women deserve better than that.

In fact, this might be their very last stand. I can't see anyone getting so excited about deleting the separation time limit on divorce or deleting the preamble.

The 8th in 1983 was the last hurrah really for Holy Catholic Ireland. It's been all downhill for them ever since.

Head over to the Christianity thread if you think you can make a case for so much as a single person having died because of the 8th.

Youll have to do better than chant slogans tho'

I don't want teenage girls who break up with their boyfriends getting abortions out of spite. This is already happening with trips to the UK but making it easier won't help.

But I also don't want rape and incest victims or women in life threatening situations to be forced to give birth here either.

All is better than nothing I suppose but I personally would have preferred another option with some stricter regulations.

You think there arent equally selfish motivations for an abortion all the way up through life?

Just how many abortions thro rape and incest do you think there are??

    Got a weighing scales?

That's often down to those girls having a terrible upbringing-the 'spoilt b!tch' who thinks getting a termination is as easy as a shopping trip.

They don't realise that everyone reacts differently to a termination-and while one girl will not regret it, another will rue the day on every anniversary.

But we cannot police stupidity. It's why education is so important-it's a last step, for many, and every woman reacts differently. Every person has regrets, but you can't police that.

I can say with confidence that Savita would most likely be alive if it were not for the 8th ignoring her decision. I can also say with confidence that some of the most respected obstetricians in the state (that are currently practising too) say that the 8th negatively impacts their work. Also that the 8th means they have to wait to an incredibly late point for an abortion for the protection of the woman's life.

You've been told all of this. You ignore it. You ignore medical practisioners that are currently operating. Many of the same people you treat as credible sources opposed even the basic protection of life act.

Is this really what you think of women?

The majority of women who get abortions are adult women, many of them are mothers already. They may not have the financial means to support another child, they may have health issues which make having another pregnancy extremely difficult, they may be in an abusive relationship, the reasons are endless. But doing it to spite a partner would be very far down the list...

Think of the women in your own life, do you think they would behave like that?

When I see the Yes posters I think "yep, makes sense", when I see the no posters I think "lies, nonsense, fabrications" and I wonder how anyone could vote no.

People get pregnant all the time without knowing it. This situation can easily happen. No original intent to deceive is needed.

People are ignorant of the reasons for pregnancy tests in hospitals. Eight amendment doesn't factor into it.

It's not the test it's what happens (or, in Ireland, can't happen) after a positive test which is the problem.

Just my 2cent observation folks......As a father to three teenage girls,I feel directly involved in the repercussions of the outcome of this referendum.
I resolutely know what way I shall be voting.

What scares me and increasingly worries me,is the volume of people who seem to be almost indifferent about it.
I live in rural Wicklow and between there and my workplace (Dublin) ,the difference in attitudes is night and day.
It's not so much diametrically opposing opinions. It's actually worse....it's lack of care or interest. Iv had verbals with (male)friends over it and I'm wondering if this ' chosen ignorance' will show itself in the polls....?

Like I said,it's just an observational aside.....

Antiskeptic you really let yourself down by implying pregnant women are bad people. Fact mothers are the selfless version of the species in the majority of cases. The majority of Irish women getting abortions are already mothers of two or more children. In England and Wales it is 4/5 single women. Whatever their reasons it is their way of life on the line, not yours.

    What:confused:
They don't realise that everyone reacts differently to a termination-and while one girl will not regret it, another will rue the day on every anniversary.

And it's important for every woman and girl to be able to choose based on their individual circumstances.
