Just bought a ticket for EP favourite king kong company in the roisin dubh in galway next weekend. Should be a belter.

Really hope they play EP again, going by their gig schedule, it is well plausible.

Ask them if they're playing EP and report back!

Being filmed by German TV. They've heard that KKC shows are chaotic and want to capture that.

    Still not seen them.

That bad? Pals enjoyed Brian Wilson there but a seated venue doesn't make sense for Suede.

It’s superb for musicals and the like, gigs.... not so much

Saw Conor Oberst there, suited that gig. Can't see it suiting Suede.

Not your fault piss poor line up. Picnic is on the downward trajectory. It’s dead to me . Great when it was great

Maybe the trick is for them to stop selling tickets for it, it will then get back to normal again.

Comedy Lineup from All Together Now

Would have liked Tommy at Picnic

Picnic had a great comedy lineup in 2016 when I was last there, Dylan Moran, David O Doherty, then the usual like the Rubberbandits etc. Great way the spend the evening.

If ever there was a post that should be stickied in this thread, this is it.

Edit: It's not common in Ireland, but how would people feel if EP/Longitude, etc switched to what Primavera, Coachella, Glasto and others do and announced everything in one go?

I mean, the staggered announcements can lead to huge excitement as it keeps cropping up every few weeks but it is also a little frustrating, waiting to know what's there.

I like the staggered, as you say, adds to the build up but I'd like a little more consistency. I'm sure a similar list for 2016 would be totally different.
AllTogetherNow released comedy line up today. It's happening only 1 month before EP and have already had 2 music line up announcements and the comedy...

Glasto announcements are staggered as well. Generally two sets of announcements for the main stages and seperate ones for headliners, dance areas and smaller stages

Are they? My bad! I always thought it was one single announcement of a total poster, save for a few leaks here and there.

Do people think that the Irish acts at ATN are tied-in or will some appear at EP as Longitude acts occasionally do? I've recently got into Brigid Mae Power and would love to see her on the Other Voices stage or somewhere in Body & Soul. Would also welcome Talos back.

I think there is an over lap with EP and Longitude as they are both Festival Republic ran events (correct me here if I'm wrong) ATN is a POD event.. Probably still be a little over lap

Personally I wouldn't like it, I like having different announcements throughout the year even if it can feel a bit drawn out at certain times. I would absolutely hate if they did it like some festivals abroad and announce 3 or 4 names at a time..

No idea about if ATN & EP will share some of the same Irish acts, I would say it is possible anyway, in fairness to picnic it never disappoints in booking the best of Irish acts.

I'd prefer the entire line up in one swoop. The 'other acts across the weekend' is annoying as well. For example, There is one act I really want to see in particular playing at Longitude but we don't know what day he is playing yet. I am meant to be going away that weekend but trying to keep it open as I want to see him play. World Cup final is also on that Sunday. Need to factor that in.

Id prefer if they announced all the 'main acts' in one go and then in the run up to the picnic all the smaller acts or throwback, comedy etc

    Leave somethings to wait for

What I would like is for them to get the finger out.

Judging by the timetable, compiled by that devilishly handsome Rigor Mortis chap, they are falling further behind.

I want to re-up my hype levels.

What's the logic of the staggered releases from a business point of view? They seem to sell out regardless of who is playing so they are beyond the point that they need to reel people in, unlike the other festivals.

So for example another festival can do the following:

Stage 1 - People who buy off the strength of last year's line up / the general festival goodwill / fun. Sometimes the early tickets are cheaper but you buy them without knowing who is playing

Stage 2 - Tickets sell after the first lineup / headliners are announced. If they sell out at this stage they don't need to get other bands to shore up the undecided, so can either spend the money on bands that they actually want to give a shot to for band improvement purposes or alternatively they can book cheaper bands and bank extra profits

Stage 3 - If they haven't sold out after the first lineup is announced, they can invest in some serious second tier acts, either by another headliner or by variety. So in one festival, it might not sell out because there are no "must see" bands, in another it might be that they are too rock/dance orientated etc.

I don't see why a sold out festival needs to bother with the third part. So why are the picnic waiting? Is it because they haven't agreed the deals yet, or that they are building the hype, or maybe they are looking for feedback to know which way to go in terms of variety etc?

Overall, I'm not expecting much from the second announcement, as there is no real incentive for them to do so. But I would secretly hope that we will get a big 80s band, a soul singer in his/her 60s on a cashing in tour, a few recent ish indie bands and a load of good Irish bands and cover bands.
