Yeah. Just a shame he never made it to the UFC. He did lose against the big UFC guys whos crossed over though. Werdum, Silva, Henderson.

He also beat Nogueira, Goodridge, Randleman, Coleman, Cro-Cop, Sylvia, Arlovski, and a load more "big UFC guys" who crossed over.

Jaysus I'd be worried if I was bellator and had poured alot of money into Dillon Danis. A cherry picked opponent with a white belt ground game looked like he was about to KO him.

I haven't seen anyone jump half guard in a main card fight in MMA, at any level, in about 15 years, so that was nice.

Only catching up on this event now, skipped straight to Fedor - Mir. At this stage not expecting either of the two to set the world alight but pretty poor in my uninformed opinion from Mir. Number 1 Chael Sonnen fan here and can't wait to see him fight Fedor even if it is in what 6 months time?

Whatever about the level of Danis' opponent, that toe-hold entry was savage

Great finish to be fair but yeah he looked pretty poor on the feet, I was sure he was about to get KO'd!

Hate when these so-called 'rising stars' are put up against bum opposition.

It was his MMA debut, what do you expect him to face? I get that the persona he's using is annoying but I'm sure it's nothing more than an act, he needs to fight "bums" for a while otherwise he'll get knocked out - I'm sure he's perfectly aware of this too. He can't have been training MMA much more than a year at this stage.

You can't have it both ways. You can't give it the Billy big bollocks and (apparently) be one of the highest paid guys in bellator and then expect people to look the other way when you're matched against a complete bum. When's the last time you've seen an MMA fight end in a toe hold? It's day 1 stuff. Look at CM punk - bit ridiculous that he was in the ufc in the first place but the ufc tested him against someone with a winning record. I would have expected to see Danis tested against someone with a winning record. Or atleast another 0-0 fighter who excelled in a particular skillset.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Pretty much. It's not so much that it's his debut as much as the reported money he's being paid, only to fight a bum nobody on his first outing. So what? Does anyone care or even take him seriously? You'd swear he won a titlefight with the way he's going on since - talking about the 'bums' in the division and then calling out Ben Askren, seriously?

It's painful how much he's obviously trying to pull a 'McGregor' with the inflated ego and smack talk but he just comes across like an utter twit.

The fact we are here talking about the fight is exactly the justification behind his pay check.
The guy he fought was a bum. But he had more experience than Danis. I'm not sure who people where expecting him to face on his debut. A fighter with elite striking abd a 5-1 record would have been a ridiculous match up. He should progress as he takes up wins.

The funny part is he calling out Askren, who's retired and still under contract to another organisation, instead of Rory or Lima, because he knows the other two would actually be able to call him out on it and take his soul.

I fully understand that they had a debutant on their hands and had to treat him accordingly - but they clearly, blatantly hand picked someone who they thought would give him no trouble whatsoever. That deserves to be called out.

I'm all for giving him gradual steps up but when youre only matching him against someone you 100% know he'll beat, that's just being disingenuous. Then again, fight promoters are almost all inherently disingenuous, I appreciate that.

They picked a guy who was 2-4 and had lost his last two via sub, and put him up against one of the top BJJ guys in the world. They had no intention of testing him or putting on a good fight - and it very nearly blew up in their face. They'll have to trot out some line of absolute cans to try and hope that Danis improves, and fast.

Danis fought a better guy in his debut than Khabib fought for his 15th professional fight. (and 12th and 13th fight also)

That's Belator standard procedure. Gallagher, Pico, MVP. Constant lobside matches for big names. I'm not justifying it, I've called it out in the past. Belator need to cope on with those guys at some point. I just don't expect any more atbthis point

I think people are letting their opinion of Danis antics cloud their objectivity.

Did any of ye watch footage of Kyle Walker? No matter his record, he has heavy hands, knows how to throw a punch, he has been striking a fair few years. He has some kind of boxing fight on youtube where he looks quite comfortable with his hands.

Danis had absolutely no striking, so yer man had a very good chance of KO'ing Danis (and almost did). Danis on the flip side had a very good chance of getting a sub if he got it to the ground. A fight where both guys have a good chance of beating the other, that's a fair fight. I'm not seeing a guy hand-picked to lose.

The balls on him to come out with this (first one on Askren):
”I just told Scott Coker to bless him with a one day contract,” Danis declared. “If I say get him, we’ll get him.”
“I said this before I came in: no one has ever experienced submissions like this in MMA,” he told Big John McCarthy in the cage. “I’m too good. This is another level. ... I’m the one that created all this. I did all the media. I built up this whole card. So all the bums on the rest of the card are going to call me out now.”

....He says after showing a dismal stand-up game against essentially a nobody.

Not sure if he's trying to play the game McGregor style or another clown whose ego bears no resemblence to actual ability.

Nobody has seen a toe hold since about UFC 15. I wonder why?

He turned down a fight with Neimen Gracie several times but acts like he actually wants to get murdered by Askren. He's embarrassing.

Frank Mir has a toe win in the UFC. Marcin Held has another in Belator. Two that came to mind first. I'm not sure what you mean by "I wonder why?"
It's rare in MMA, but it's a legit sub imo.

It's rare because to get caught in one you'd need really **** positional jiu-jitsu awareness. It's super low level stuff.

Slight problem with that theory. It's not rare in jiu jitsu.
Romulo Barral is among the best of all time in BJJ. ADCC champ, 5 time world champ (10+ times in the finals). Suggesting he has **** jiu jitsu awareness would obviously be retarded - yet he had his foot dislocated at Workds last year via toe hold.
The above is a very outdated view of leglocks. Kinda surprised as I had you pegged as more DDS than old school Gracie.

Video of Romulo toehold. Fair warning, its nasty. 10 seconds left, so he refused to tap, snap city. The lunatic actually held on for the buzzer, but lost anyway.

Anthony 'pretty boy' Taylor had jumped over to BAMMA to fight Dean Barry in Dublin this month.

Charlie Ward has signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator. I guess they are hoping for more publicity from McGregor's shenanigans!

The most impressive performance on BAMMA so far this evening had been Sam Slater. He looked really slick.

The O'Driscoll fight had more in the 3 minutes it lasted than some 25 minute fights have.

    Main card just starting now.

What a fight between Crosbie and Plant. A 4 minute old school slobberknocker!

It was an enjoyable card overall I thought. Pity the place was only around half capacity

Yeah that's disappointing alright. If it was the UFC you'd have people falling over themselves trying to get tickets but BAMMA always put on great entertaining cards.
