My wife is Spanish. Apparently in Spain the Swiss roll is called a gypsy's arm. :)

If someone tells us that Ferrero Rocher isn't what it used to I'll be very disappointed.

Well the way they've been spoiling us couldn't last forever.

I think I have gateux cake PTSD from being force fed them and sugary tea when visiting the granmother.

    That'd be diabetes, not PTSD.

I've emailed valeo foods so will see what answer I get.

I feel there is near zero cocoa in the new recipe.

Tastes like paper to be honest.

Fake Irish brands, 'Old Time Irish Marmalade' not made here. Some joke.

I used to love the Raspberry (or was it strawberry?) swizz roll, but now, all I ever see is those ones with a layer of that mank, disgusting cream included.

I bought one of their jam swiss rolls recently and was really disappointed. Not like I remember them at all.

The M&S ones are much nicer.

Every decade or so the parent company behind these types of foods gets gobbled up by an even bigger supermassive pensions and investment conglohommerate or gets new management that send out their suited henchmen to factory floor in order to look for cost savings.

The problem with this mass production is that there is too much to be gained by tiny per-unit cost savings. 0.1 of a cent saved over millions of units = thousands of quids saved for the owners to shove into their pockets instead.

I was thinking of making cinnamon rolls lately but maybe I'll just make a swiss roll...

Ah but that's the way things are now. The global economy and all of that, we should embrace it because it creates a few jobs for tech hipsters to put everyone else out of a job.

So a few multinationals with skyscrapers can suck all the money out of the rest of the world as if it were a bag of capri sun.

You want to try it now it's lost any closenes to the original.

I understand what everyone has said but I couldn't believe the difference in a very bad way the other day from the original packaging to the new font and style on box.

They have been horrible for years. Question is why people still buy them? Nostalgia?

Swiss rolls used to be only ok a lot of years ago. Now, and for quite some time really, they're a mix of sugary gritty fake tasting white paste and dark brown compressed dehydrated sawdust.

About as tasty & tempting as Supermacs to be honest.

This is what happens when cost savings are everything and on the other side, you have lots of stuff now being seen as unhealthy or unfit for consumption

Result is a bland, tasteless mess that often tries to overcompensate with things that just don't suit, and/or reduced in size so much (most chocolate bars and now bottles of Coke) so much that it's just a blatant rip-off on top of it.

It taste like the icing on top of a cake and a little chocolate

Who the fúck buys Robert Roberts tea? Seriously, how hasn't "big tea" (lyons and barrys) swallowed them up?

Think they make most own brand labels.
    Probably for catering trade too.

Good to stir up the market...

I worked in the original Gateaux factory many years ago , you could eat as much as you wanted in the factory but you would experience a fate worse than death should you try leave the factory with anything.

My waistline is a tribute to all the old staff , Flycatcher , hippity hop, Gringo etc

I think it closed about 1994 after a strike.
