Went to see Ed a few years ago in whatever the point was called then, about halfway through I was bored as fcuk, but Mrs Flyer liked him so I had to endure.
As for the Stones, seeing as they are being mentioned on thread, wouldn't give them a millisecond of my time, even if my life depended on it, robbin' b'stids.

Think you missing a point. He is the epitome of processed pop shyte.
The big buzinessmen who created him would go through his tunes with a fine comb.
He is Mr Manufactured as such.

I know little about him except from an appearance on Norton and the toy show but he seems far from manufactured. Picked up a guitar, busked and did gigs, eventually got a recording contract.

He’s hardly WestLife or the Sex Pistols.

I don't get his popularity to be honest, his songs aren't bad but there nothing special. He kinda took off in America so now he's in mainstream pop culture so much that he can just bring out any useless song and it will be popular.

Fair play to him, he seems a nice fella and doesn't seem to be any bulls**t about him. I suppose if I had a teenager daughter I'd prefer her listen to him then some talentless ones running around the stage half naked

To those unhappy with Ed's fame, who was the last big pop star that deserved to be where they are?

It's all opinion but sure let's see who we get.

He seems to be to the Irish millennials what Garth Brooks was to their parents' generation.

I know man, he's just so real. I would have him up there with all the greats, James Blunt, David Gray, Coldplay.

Not a fan but what I like seeing is concerts spread out across Ireland.

For too many years artists only ever play in Dublin, so to see him play in Cork and Galway is nice and handy for people in the West/south/southwest.

Saw them in Slane in 1982 (I'm getting very old!) and they weren't great then ... I'd be fairly confident that they haven't got better over the years! I'd actually prefer to be at Ed Sheeran!

Actually they have - a lot. They now have so seriously good musicians with them & they are sober :)

    Give the man a break!

    Well done ed

The tickets released for Cork tonight are production holds, they were only released this afternoon. It's technically sold out.

I must be the only one in Cork not going, also. Literally EVERYONE is going.

140k going over the 3 nights population of Cork 542k, you wouldn't have to be a mathematician to figure out that all of Cork isn't going.

I said he was real in the sense of not being manufactured. Probably those groups are real too.

Pop music snobs are the worst kind of idiot. I used to be one as a stupid teenager. Then I stopped being a teenager.

It’s all crap bubble gum music including whoever you think is great. One or two very rare exceptions aside.

He's probably not the worst but his popularity seems out of whack with his talent. If he was playing in my front garden I'd pull the curtains.

Seems like a reasonably nice chap though so good luck to him.

I thought I was the only one not going :D If someone handed me a ticket I would go alright.

Nearly everyone I work with seems to be going this weekend. I couldn't think of anything worse tbh. Ed Sheeran and large crowds of teenagers...no thanks!

Balls. The National and Sigur Ros are huge hardly bubblegum pop. Loads of creative lyrically strong bands out there who are big as such.
Your just describing the crap on the radio.

Hardly a snob to call a spade a spade and say Ed Sheeran is pants. Like I said you'd see as good or better most days on Grafton Street.

I totally agree with you about the shows spread out. There are four shows later this year that I would like to go to,Steve Earle and The Dukes,The Gaslight Anthem,Little Steven and The Disciples Of Soul, and John Fogerty/Steve Miller Band at Bluesfest. They are all in Dublin which is a pain in the arse. Even Steve Earle doesn't play in Galway
anymore.Unfortunately I am probably going to give those shows a miss, due to the hassle of going to them in Dublin. It was great in 2013 when Bruce Springsteen played in Limerick,Cork and Kilkenny.

Ed Sheeran is a bit of a mystery, not overly talented, average singer, average looks but yet he's reached astronomical levels of success and fame.

    Haha. I say he does.
He was asked how he relaxes after a gig and I quote

"Haha mate Well I get one of the hotter mammies from the crowd and bring her backstage. I get her jubblies out mate and motoboat her as she rubs grapes on the top of my head as she screams go stready Eddie GO STEADY EDDIE. Really takes the edge off mate. Really does mate."

For a man who can't listen to him, can't bare the sight of him etc
Well you seem to know more about him than his 'PR' crew!?!?
Actually I learned more about Ed Sheeran in your op than I ever knew lol

So his Irish tour starts today in Cork and its in the news and something like 1 in 10 Irish people going to see him. To be there!.

My mind boogles. A bumfluff beard ginger busker type who incessantly dresses like a broke ass student with hair stylist approved "messy" hair and crooning out the cheesiest of cheese love songs (not a genuine heartfelt or mournful word in any tune) on a looped guitar track.

One trick pony. Lads been busking with this sthick since the early 2000's and often much better with more interesting songs. Anytime I hear his trite songs and whiny voice I have to change the radio station.

Anyway fair play to him milk it for all its worth Ed but he probably cant believe hes getting away with it.

To me hes as manufavctured as Milli Vanilli.
A teenage heart-throb type who will love you "forever and a day its all groovy baby sing with me darling type" all that bs and the businessmen behind it rake it in. Hand over fist.
Guy has been marketed as well as the McDonalds "Happy" meal.
Grown adults listen to his songs and swoon.
    Even some men!?!?!.

Very very strange they cant see past his marketed gimmick and extra strengh cheese "love" songs.

Is music not a personal taste , why would it bother you so much :):) do you not have bands you like , the guy is talented .
