No, it's not a function that links them.

Two conclusions can be drawn from that:

    1. They are not linked by a function

    2. They are linked by a function that is other than lights.

That's it. All discovered by Humphry Davy.

Pretty limited on linkages once the idea of similar function is removed haha.

For what reason are Daddy Long Legs technically not spiders?

I have quite a list but the number of legs is the first.

    They don't spin webs.

    Sir Humphrey Davy

    He lived in the odium
    Of having discovered sodium.

I read this to the tune of "I am the very model of a modern major general", as well as to the tune of "The elements song" by Lehrer.:P

You must be thinking of the harvestman and not our Daddy Long Legs, or Cranefly. So, the number of eyes would be diagnostic.

I didnt realise there was another species associated with the moniker.

The hat with the lamp that miners wear is named after Humphrey Davy I believe.

Davy invented that safety lamp. He was addicted to Nitrous Oxide and coined the name Laughing Gas for it.

George Stevenson invented the safety lamp and it was still used in the north east of England after Humphry Davy had invented his, allegedly this is why Geordies are called Geordies.

I'm guessing that means ye've given up on my question?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,741 ✭✭✭✭looksee

Er, what was the question again? :D It seems to have got a bit lost in the whole daddylonglegs /cranefly /harvestmen discussion...was anyone any way right?

Daddylonglegs is the title of a book and a film. There, I win.

I asked why Daddy Long Legs arent technically spiders, however the issue got slightly derailed. Essentially they are still arachnids, but the males have a penis, and are therefore not spiders.

It seems I owe half a question:

    1. (An easy one): Which country has the most northerly southernmost point on land?
In other words, which Northern Hemisphere country is furthest from the Equator?

While you're at it, you may as well have the other half (not as easy):

    2. Which country has the most southerly northernmost point on land?
In other words, which Southern Hemisphere country is furthest from the Equator?

    Iceland for the first?

    New Zealand for the second?

    Correct. Surtsey Island.

No. (That's what I would have said too.)

Based on one more guess, and under the assumption that New Zealand has an island up north I'm unaware of, I'm going to go left-field with a guess of Lesotho?
