    Hi All

As a new season starts I am looking for a way to track the distance of sea swims.

I don't really want to spend too much on a fancy watch, just something simple with GPS as all I really want it for is tracking distance.

    Any ideas or recommendations?

    Thanks

I used my phone in a chill swim floatbag.

Yeah that's what I do if I want to track distance as well. Definitely the cheapest and most accurate way to do it, and you can get some nifty free GPS apps which you can then lay the way points over Google maps which can be fun. Floats are about €30.

A PoolMate watch has an OW feature which tracks distance based on your stroke (need to calibrate it first). It's not as accurate as a GPS watch, but if you're not swimming into/against a strong current I've found it to be fairly accurate and is a fraction of the cost of a GPS watches. Not great, but acceptable. PoolMate watch is about £50.

Other cheap (free!) option is to swim between known markers (buoys, land marks etc) and then measure the distance on Google maps. This is what I do most of the time. I swim in a bay so know the distances between various land marks along the bay.
