I'm in the market for a new phone for a while but have yet to pull the trigger. Currently have an Mi4c and it has served me well, so with this and a few more of their products I've become a bit of an Xiaomi fan.

My budget is around 300-350 mark but could stretch a little bit more if needed. Had been looking at Mi6 but a bit put off by the weight and some other negatives. Just wondering if anyone else had any recommendations in this price range. Prefer smaller screens so 5.15in is probably my max

Because of your screen size limit there's only a few xiaomi phones within your range. The footprint of a 5.5" screen won't be too much a jump up and would give you many more option.
    Mi A1
    Redmi Note 4 ...

Sorry should have said, although I'm fan of xiaomi, I'm not restricting the search to just them.

whats the best really big chinese phone ?....the mi max 2 is maybe best i've seen....but theres probably others i'm not aware of.
take the samsung s8+ / s9+...although screen is 6.2" diagonal..put it side by side with a traditional 16:9 5.5 or 5.7" screen and theres not a wild lot of difference...width is same.
i actually prefer 16:9 and dont even like curved screens...but seems it'll be 18:9 or close to that, that will be standard now.

Xiaomi changed the way I buy a phone. I looked at what I needed & my priorities. I discovered that I only needed to spend 170. Since getting the phone I look at higher models & weigh up whether the extra features are worth double the price - to me they aren't.

    No Notch!

Conflicting information from a reddit post: -
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, launching tomorrow (23/4) in Indonesia and probably India too. 4/64 is Rp 2.999.999 (216 USD), while 3/32 is Rp 2.199.999 (159 USD). SD 636, 5000 mAh, USB Type-C + QC 3.0, dual camera, and most importantly stock android.

Stock android but not android one. Conflicting information regarding charging port.

We will find out early tomorrow morning here.

^ What's the difference between stock Android and Android One Corkie?

This phone might be worth it's own thread, you reckon?

Edit: actually, on reading that Reddit link, it has no headphone jack..
    Deal breaker for me.
WHYRED it is for me (unless the Mi A1 drops further in price before the WHYRED is available)

I would take the leaked specs with a grain of salt, gsmarena says it has a headphone jack. Didn't see it mentioned in the reddit link.

Android One is a program from google with guaranteed updates for 3 years. Asus will probably load the device with an AOSP stock rom.

I will leave it up to someone more interested in the device, if they want to start a thread. WHYRED is still my favorite because of kernel sources out and the fact there is already custom rom support.

I thought Android one was a paired down lite version of Android for less powerful phones? Project treble is the guaranteed updates model?

    No.

It was aimed at entry level devices initially to get maximum spread in short time.... But it actually is goggles main android program. It advertises itself as "the best version of android guaranteed "

Android GO is the lite version.

A lot of new phones released around this time of year and for the next month or so, lesser known brands will also have promotions (xx free phones or heavily discounted for the launch). Worth watching out for on brand sites and/or sites like Banggood/Joybuy/Lightinthebox etc..

    Meizu 15 was launched today.

CelticRepairs.ie repair all phones afaik. I think you can also send it to them if you are not near.
Edit - a quick google throws up this

Thanks, rang them and they don't stock the mi5 screen. Anyone else got any suggestions?

You could ask them if you sourced the part your self, would they replace it for you.

Another company that has a nationwide service: -

    https://www.ielectron.ie/repair-services/phone-repairs

    Part: - http://www.ipartsbuy.com/view/3149106/iPartsBuy%20LCD%20Screen%20%20%20Touch%20Screen%20for%20Xiaomi%20Mi%205%20Black%20.htm

^^^ You could probably get cheaper and not as good quality of aliexpress.

Edit: - Some xiaomi phones also required an adhesive layer to glue the new screen on, so don't forget to source that as well.

[androidcentral] ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 preview: Finally a viable contender to the Redmi Note 5 Pro
As for connectivity, the phone is limited to Wi-Fi b/g/n, so you won't be able to connect to 5GHz networks. The phone works over VoLTE, but you won't see the symbol in the status bar (ASUS says it'll be added in a future update).

No news yet of band support, no Gorilla Glass or Asahi Dragontrail protection, No Infrared port, And camera's not as good as WHYRED.

Think i will stick with WHYRED, even with it costing more.

    Edit: -

[gsmarena] Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 debuts with Snapdragon 636, 5,000 mAh battery
Price-wise the 3GB/32GB model will go for INR 11,000 (€135), the 4GB/64GB model costs INR 13,000 (€160) and the 6GB/64GB will top out at INR 15,000 (€185).

There was some great after sales care from the Ali Express supplier I purchased my Xiaomi Note 5A from

They sent me a message asking me if I was happy with everything . I told them I was over the moon and not in any mood to complain about anything but if I had any small gripe it would be that I received a chinese charger with an adaptor (which together were still tiny) and ideally it should be an EU plug.

They responded it hadnt been part of my purchase but popped an EU plug in the post for me free of charge anyway

Why did they make it so ugly? :(

Think I might just splash out on the Mi Max 2S, love the look of it.

EDIT: Actually I meant the Mi Mix 2S:

    http://www.mi.com/en/mix2/

although the Mi Max 3 is supposed to be out this month aswell, need to wait and see what thats like.

The Beijing-based firm today announced that it has partnered with CK Hutchinson to bring Xiaomi products to Three Group Europe stores in Austria, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Sweden, and the U.K.

The question is will the devices be locked to the Three Network, if you decide to purchase through that method!
