Yeah, I often thought Irwin wouldn't be too bad if he had his own show. Despite his obsession with the Gallaghers, when he wasn't talking about them he seemed to display a fairly articulate knowledge of music.

This is the landscape of Irish radio...... A myriad of the inept and his random thoughts.

sorry, I tried, I really did. It is definitely not for me. it had all the irritating bits of Marty n Dee (Kids, inane chatter) without the saving grace of half decent tunes in between.

Anybody got any suggestions for a decent rock channel or is that it now?... :(

If you're looking for an alternative on FM radio in Dublin, I'm afraid you're out of luck. I've switched to using the rockradio.com app.

+1.....It sounds heavier than it actually is...you'll hear Metallica, Deep purple, Motorhead etc...but you'll also hear Steely Dan, Doobies, Tom petty too....a great mix..

Nova's idea of "rock" has shifted far from the original 7 years ago...TBH Courtenay's show plays the best tunes (but his humour tires me out) ,with GG gone theres nowt much to tune in for ...they seem more concerned on more talk than tunes these days...

I liked Marty and Conor. Though I'm only in the car for about 10 minutes in the morning but I found them entertaining enough and tunes were mostly ok. Better than that eejit whose on in the evenings. Can't stand Pat.
Lucy and Colm this morning, awful. I know it's the first day and everything but can't see myself continuing to tune into it.
Time to look at some apps now it seems.

I can't vouch for the breakfast show but I listen to BBC 6 music from 10-18:00 or thereabouts and then some evenings from 19:00-whenever. Cracking

Did anyone watch the 6 O'Clock Show in the end? During their interview it was pointed out that Nova is a rock station (their words, not mine), Kennedy responded, stating that they didn't hire her for her taste in music. I take that to mean that she has no interest in the genre of music that the station purports to play/promote, hmm. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I smell a re-brand coming down the line.

What will the rebrand be? The way the music is going on Nova it will sound very like 4fm. Bay broadcasting will hardly have two stations the same competing in the same market will they. Could we see a merger and them going fully national as one station

How can they afford LK... surely they could have gotten half a dozen dj's that know about music for what theyre paying her.....

I think they'll re-brand insofar as quietly dropping all references pertaining to their designation as a 'rock' station. Let's face it, they're not a rock station, not anymore at least. They've chosen to target the mainstream listenership with the hiring of Hayes and Kennedy. I think they'll also adjust their brand accordingly to further attract that target audience. But that's just my own speculation.

Must be why they're playing so many more ads as of late :-D

BBC6 is great, although I can stand the morning DJ.

    Plant rock seems region restricted.

So did anyone hear any songs this morning that a few years ago wouldn't have been played on Nova?

Beginning at the 8am news, they've played:

    - She Bangs the Drums; Stone Roses
    - Golden Skans; Klaxons
    - Start Me Up - Stones
    - To the Bright and Shining Sun - the Walls
    - Real Feel - the Coronas
    - Magnificent - Elbow
    - Dog Days are Over - Florence
    - Going Out - Supergrass

Very unscientific and small sample size but that's exactly what I want from my radio music and it's exactly what Nova "should" be paying.

It's a shame so many people seem determined to hate it without giving it a go.

i was listening to Nova around 6am..i heard a promo for the upcoming brekkie programme that ye all love..it went something like this

"they have 5 kids between them...tune in for the breakfast show with C and L (sic)"

seriously like? is the new demographic "bantz loving parents with a sh!t taste in music"

it's the Sky Sports News of radio

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,109 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Also why does it only start at 7?
I leave for work at 6.30 and the previous show was already well on the go then (ironically playing the "extra few minutes in bed song")
