Garda Investigation

Somebody made a complaint about me to the Gardai in relation to an item I sold online that never arrived. The website I sold the item on told me that there was a Garda investigation into it. I refunded the buyer through paypal before knowing this. This occured in November and I have had no contact with the Gardai over this matter. Can they still issue me a summons without contacting me to investigate first as if I had not contacted the website I wouldn’t even know about the complaint. Or seen as I have had no contact with the Gardai, can I assume that by refunding the money that the complaint was dropped?

I would say more then likely you will here nothing to be honest but if you want contact them and state you returned the money through PayPal and the story behind issue.

Ok thanks i’ll do that, there is a background check currently being carried out for a job that I have been offered. Even if I am going to hear back from the Gardai at some point, will my record still show up clean on the background check seen as I have not been charged with anything yet?

Don’t be so paranoid, it will show up clear, as long as you were not caught with a big box of machine guns in your boot at some stage or something along them lines

Are you sure you weren't phished?
Highly unusual for Garda t very involved in online seeking complaints.
Anyway, they'd have no interest in it as is a civil issue.
I'd say you were conned by a chancer buyer.

Thanks for the replies, it was adverts who let me know there was a Garda investigation as I asked why my account had been suspended. So you’re saying even if they did get involved that more than likely nothing would come of it?

The chances of the Gardaí doing anything about this are very, very, slim. There is a Cork company scamming people through Adverts and DoneDeal for years, who have been the subject of dozens of reports to the Gardaí and several civil court judgements, and the Gardaí have never investigated them. I'd say you are safe.

    Its a civil matter.

If the Gardai where investigating you for say selling stolen gear you would know about it.

More to the point take the issue up with adverts.ie. They have the answers to your questions!

Your first question is about why your account was suspended and for full details of their claim that you were under investigation.

Perfect that has cleared everything up for me, thanks to everyone for replying

    Heya,

Also for future reference, if you have proof of delivery go to Gardai and make it official against it. This will eliminate those who try to scam you.
And also, try to send your items insured so you may make a claim.
