Getting freehold from DCC??

Hi all,

I am biying an ex-Dublin corporation house at the moment.

The property is leasehold and there are only 13 years left on the lease i.e. not bankable unless the vendors buy out the freehold from DCC.

A motion was passed at the DCC monthly meeting approving the sale. I believe the next step is for a transfer order to issue. Is anyone familar with the process and how long it can take?

I went sale agreed four months ago and am keen to close.

There's a difference between DCC allowing the sale of the leasehold, as a leasehold to another party and the conversion of the leasehold to a freehold - worth checking which is going on. The process is pretty quick assuming no boundary issues etc.

Which reminds me I need to chase mine up!

My house is ex DCC....it was on leasehold when i bought it but with about 70 years on it.

It was very straightforward buying freehold but takes some time, dont need to go through a solicitor.

Thanks. The vendor has to do at now before I sign contracts as the bank won’t lend my cash with only 13 years left on the lease. Fingers crossed it won’t take too long!
