    At least to now, the R-Pi required a separate licence to be purchased to enable decoding of MPEG-2 video.

    The last major patent area for MPEG-2 has expired -
    the US patent expired February 13, 2018;
    patents remain active in
    Philippines and Malaysia after that date.

    Has anyone come across any updated information about the R-Pi and the requirement to purchase a licence?

    Are you still expected to purchase a licence for MPEG-2 if you buy a R-Pi?

    Didn't bother for the Pi3 as it plays everything fine in Kodi that I've thrown at it.

    Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

    Good to know, but what about the other versions?
    Are they releasing a 'general' licence for all users?
