When they do on the motorway you can fly by them.

Yea if you are a car or two behind the slow driver. What usually happens is you are stuck in a big group because some inconsiderate driver who thinks they are the best driver holds everyone up.

Castlebar to Tuam is about 40 minutes, and Tuam to Shannon about 50, so I'd say the hour and a half should see you right.

And once you get past Milltown, you don't have to worry about being held up anywhere!

Any word on the proposed "services" at the Tuam end of the M17? Lots of chatter last year but it seems to have gone quiet recently...

I presume you mean the one at Steeltech Sheds? Two things are happening:

1. LIDL are looking to demolish their existing shop and build a new one. As part of that they are planning:

Tbh you are hardly going to drive a fair bit down the M6 if you are on the M18/M17 just to get some petrol.

The M17/M18 need their own some where along the road.

This new road is a revelation.
The sooner the whole west coast is dualled the better.

I am far from familiar with Galway traffic but was stuck on Headford Rd and Bothar nadTreabh last week.
Seems to me there are too many traffic lights with 4 different directions needing accommodated.

Why can't one road go over/under the other? This would at least keep traffic moving. The volume of cars didn't seem bad - just how often a red light stopped them.

The M17/M18 service area was originally to be tacked onto the Rathmorrissey roundabout, however as that was refused planning the policy will be that the M6 MSA will be sufficient for M17/M18 traffic

In other news, the old N17 through Tuam town is now the R942. Not sure if this has been put on any signs locally.

I'd imagine they are internal signage put up N6 Concession, the PPP consortium operating that stretch of the N6. There are similar signs on the CRG controlled stretch of M7 through Co. Laois.
