The offer for my car was lower than I was offered elsewhere alright. In a follow up call to me, I have told them what I need to do a deal and they said while they want my business they have to make a living and my figure is unrealistic.

Are they quoting close to UK figures for your 330e and Irish figures for their car?

Yeah I guess so. Isn’t that always the way?
The figures I saw were definitely the price of the car after vrt etc.
Definitely 10k margin, actually 12k as they told me they were giving me 2k off the asking price.

Anyway back on topic it makes 6k to go up a year for a gc very good value and I would go with it MarkN if you like the car when they get it in.

Just as a reminder that the 6 is a 100k plus car when new, the guy who I know running a 2014 gc has cracked his headlight and water penetration has damaged the adaptive headlight.
Dealer has quoted 3500 euro to replace headlight unit...

Thankfully I know enough lads in the trade that I wouldn't be paying that kind of money but nobody should. For a headlight like. Mad!

Yep, €2900 I was quoted from Joe Duffy for mine, just parts. If you can find someone in the trade with a BMW account who's happy to take a small margin, there's significant savings to be made.

I was offered 1k today for a great condition e60 523i sport 2006 against an already pricey 640d!

I know it's old, I know it's thirsty, I know it's tax is high but come on like, from the same dealer network that want 4k for a headlight!

Presume they would give you the 640d for bigger discount if you buy straight and then you can sell the e60 yourself.
    Looking at coupe or gc?

They really don't want it I'm afraid. Surely you would get a bit more for it privately? Even if you gave the E60 away for free and went to the UK for a 640d it would work out cheaper than trading it against one here?

That's exactly what he intends to do.

what a joke. What would it sell for privately? 3k ish?

If anyone needs any BMW parts I’d highly recommend contacting Elliot in the parts dept in Harry Fairbairn BMW in Scotland. He’ll do free delivery to your parcel motel locker and his prices are very favourable compared to dealers here.

Just tell him you’re a member of one of the BMW groups (F30 or whatever) on Facebook.

Yeah being a sport they always retain a little bit of value. I was never really trading it in I just mentioned my own for the craic. I had a meeting cancelled at late notice in the area so went in to have a look.

I'd sell privately if I was doing it for about 3k then look for another 1k or so off any asking price for straight deal. He had a look said it was a lovely car but everything against me in the market which is right.

At least he was being honest but he could have at least sugar coated it to look like he wanted a deal. Said the 1k was all he could offer as the 640d was discounted by 1000 recently. Otherwise would have been 2k.

Just leaves a bad feeling when they say their 6 year old car is worth 25 to 30 times my car!! I'm not in a massive rush to change I like the e60 a lot but it's on my agenda this year I'd say.

You in the market for a coupe of GC?

GC if I do go 6 series.
But see the thing is I don't know what the hell I want.
In last year I've looked at brand new 330e, used 330e, 530d, old model 630i and 635d and newer 640d.
Budgets from 6k cash to to 40k financed, although prudence always gets the better of me when I look at a 40k car and compare it to the 10k car or even my 3k car I just can't justify spending the money on a newer car.
I'm defo a badge snob in that I like the big 3 German premium brands but not a reg snob at all, I don't care about age.
    I've even flirted with idea of 2001 ish e39 m5 or e46 m3 but that's just daft.
    Help😂

To be fair he'd have to offload your e60 to the trade..... whoever takes it would be hoping to get the 3k for it. They have to presume it needs something done to it so really the grand he offered you is fair enough in business terms if the 6 series was already discounted.

Two businesses need to make a margin on something worth 3k .... there's not much room to give you much for it if it's going through two businesses.

On the BMW dealer prices- I bought mine straight from a Dublin main dealer & it was about 1.5k more expensive than importing it myself. Went ahead anyway because it was the spec I wanted (plus a bit more) & even though a day trip to England isn’t exactly too much hassle, driving it off an Irish forecourt is still easier.
Will be interesting to see what kind of deal I’ll be offered in 2 years when the warranty is expiring and the they’ll want me to buy another one... reading everyone’s experience here I don’t hold out too much hope that I won’t get screwed!

Would you class 6 to 8K/annum depreciation being screwed?

Older cars have never been less in demand in Ireland IMO & the likes of a 6 series doesn't appeal to many once they are beyond the 7/8 year old stage.

UK prices and weak sterling are killing resale values over here. A BMW dealer will give you roughly similar or less for your trade-in as what they can buy the same car for in the UK.

Yes but then wants Irish prices for their stock!

Yep, they want their bread buttered on both sides.

I'd expect that it would retail for about 40-50% after 4 years, so I wouldn't consider 6k a year being screwed. My problem would be - as others have said here- that I'd have a car worth around 20k that's hard to sell privately, but a dealer offering new/more recent cars at a premium

Next week, I'm in no mad hurry as I taxed my current car last month for 3 months. The new car will not be registered until 2nd April as I'm not paying tax for the month of March twice especially when it's nearly over now.

yeah thats the problem, either hold onto it a good few years or simply go for something in the 25k range, rather than 40...
