Will Ulster Rugby make a statement on the verdict today? I suppose that'll be the telltale sign of whether they'll be returning or not.

I'd imagine they'll want to stay away from Belfast and the limelight for a while. Although found not-guilty, with cases like this it's really a trial by social media, and people will have their opinions regardless of the result of the verdict.

The remainder of this season will be a write off regardless, and I'd imagine if they were to return that Ulster would keep them at arm's length from the setup until the noise all dies down.
Hummm still a few AIL games left if they guys are allocated to clubs???

Not a hope they're touching this before the public furore dies down a little.

Yes, you've gotten it wrong. They are always innocent, the trial has to prove them guilty which a jury took 3 hours to unanimously decide it had failed to do.

The IRFU and Ulster Rugby have confirmed that Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding will "continue to be relieved of all duties” until a full review has taken place.

Yes. This will all be forgotten very quickly when the mob's attention turns elsewhere

It's not about the mob. It's about their day to day lives. They will have stuff shouted at them by drunk people, people on nights out who knew the girl/case, opposition fans etc. This isn't how it works when someone is acquitted of rape.

This is a cloud that hangs over someone for a long, long time. It's very naive to think their lives are going to return to just how they were in a little while.

It means they are as guilty of rape as any other member of the Ulster squad

The IRFU and Ulster Rugby note the verdict handed down today at the Belfast Crown Court in relation to the case brought against Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding. We wish to acknowledge that this has undoubtedly been a difficult and extremely traumatic time for all involved.
To respect the judicial proceedings the IRFU and Ulster Rugby postponed any internal review of the matter with the players, until the proceedings concluded.

IRFU and Ulster Rugby officials will review the matter, in line with existing procedures for all contracted players. A Review Committee, made up of senior representatives of the IRFU and Ulster Rugby, has been appointed and will conclude its review as soon as practicable.

The players will continue to be relieved of all duties while the Review Committee is in process and determining its findings.

I Would presume anyone who wouldn't like these guys playing in Ireland again due to their behaviour and image is also against the two lads at Munster playing here too given the remarkable similarities?

Sorry, I'm not allowed to respond to you directly. Happy to clarify what I mean via PM though.

There was no question of consent in that case so it's extremely different. They've been cleared and the fact that all 11 jurors took virtually no time should be taken into account. They should return to their lives at this point.

The question of consent is from one side and proven to be nothing to answer for. As it stands this afternoon the two in both scenarios are not guilty of anything other than having group sex

As expected, do not go near twitter if you value your sanity no matter what you feel of the decision. The dregs of society acting up

I would imagine at this stage any decision would be put back until the season is over let things settle down.

It's a complete ****show. Although similar incidents have occurred here in the U.S. Kobe Bryant comes to mind. He was accused of rape years ago and after all of the legalities continued his career. It's very problematic for Ulster in particular, as they desperately need P.J.
Obviously, both of them cannot sign elsewhere until released from Ulster and the IRFU. The internal review will probably take several months. We won't know the end result until the summer.
    What a mess.

imo the worst of that that nonsense will pass quick enough. I'd also say they'll get more congrats than abuse.

The law really needs to catch up on this side of social media, its crazy the stuff that was on twitter and reddit etc. I hope all the parties involved can move on with their lives, sadly they will never be the same for any of them. Belfast is a small place, the girl is known, the guys of course known.

Well since you didn’t believe the judge, why would you believe him, or what difference would what he says make?

Most of the tweets are currently trending with #IBelieveHer.

Somehow I don't think this one's going to die down quickly at all for the lads involved.

Have they been training with ulster (or at all, but presumably they haven't done nothing) , since they've been out . Coming from a standing start I'd assume even going straight back it'll be next season at this stage before they are match fit?

The few months may let the dust settle on the whole **** show.

    They've been training alone.

I doubt they've been doing too much training during the trial.

is the judges word not good enough?

i see absolutely no reason for Rory Best to comment in any way on this matter

The amount of people who, having not spent a day at the trial, believe they know better than a court of law who unanimously found them not guilty is remarkable. They don't understand the law or the process applied to that law.

I'd be interested to know a few things. If think about the sequence of events, and what was said, there's some interesting questions to be asked.

I absolutely know he's never going to comment on it. That doesn't mean his actions shouldn't be questioned.

Absolutely not true. Their lives can and should go back to where they were. They done nothing wrong in the eyes of the law. It's a disgrace that a case like that even went to trial with such little evidence

In the same way that posts impugning the defendants' characters will be moderated, so will posts that do likewise for the main witness, and stating there was no evidence or the case should not have gone to trial is making a judgement on her character also. It is difficult enough for victims to come forward without people making insinuations about their testimony.
