Denis Buckley is only 5'2" isn't he?

Marc Andreu, the winger who plays for Racing and has seven French caps is 5' 4". Has scored 36 tries for Racing.

Also Matthew Morgan of Cardiff Blues as he's quite small.

What next? If true, maybe they should go all out for Carberry? I'd even make a grab for Cipriani or Madigan. But, with the turmoil up in Ulster it certainly makes it harder. I bet every rugby player watches the revolving door of coaching and the struggles on the pitch and that's got to be a major problem.
I thought McPhillips was signed thru next year. He's a superb prospect and is doing quite well considering. It's likely to get more crappy before it gets better.

The point was made on uafc that carberry hasn't had many games behind a retreating pack as of yet and severalnposters there suggest he would struggle in that circumstance due to his style.

Not sure they are right but it's certainly something to taken into consideration.

Well they’re not wrong, Leinster and Ireland half backs do get a free ride in games by and large.

You can't blame Carberry if his pack isn't useless though

I don’t, just saying it’s a bit unknown how he’d go playing for Ulster.

I can't think of an outhalf that plays well behind a beaten pack, maybe ogara did decent job due to tactical kicking but his pack usually dominated.

Steenson plays a nice tight game....

Edit: surely padawan will be back, we'll wait and see

He'd be better than any of our other options.

I think Byrne is a more realistic target anyway and I'd take him. I rate him. I can't see Lowry being remotely ready next season and I'm unsure whether Curtis is a 10 or a 12. Either way we need to sign someone (assuming Jackson isn't here).

Cathal Marsh would be a decent signing. Not a world beater, and certainly you would want him to 2nd choice at best, but if you lose Jackson and McPhillips, then it's a no-brainer for me. Get Marsh on board and then go all out to sign a #1 10.

Jackson and Olding found not guilty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,370 ✭✭✭joseywhales

Well looks like ulster can focus on recruiting forwards then. If Jackson can be mentally fit and focussed after that, suddenly it's not a terrible first 15 aymore.

True but even with the verdict as is, with what came out during the trial re "treatment of women" some sponsors could say hey we don't like this and pull the plug. Just picking one say Kingspan say no we don't like this and walk away, Ulster will have to do something if they start to lose money.

I know this board is the wrong place to get people to look at the business side but I can see that being a real issue.

I presume now we can discuss elements of the trial, but honestly I don't really want to as it makes me a bit nauseous, and it'll make me nauseous if they're allowed back into either Ulster or Ireland squads. Hopefully they both do everyone a favour and move to an English club asap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Indeed. Just because they're not guilty does not being by any stretch that they're going to just continue their Ulster careers and pick up where they left off. Belfast is not a big place. The lads themselves may well seek a release from their contracts. Their has been a significant public condemnation of their actions which will not be lost on them, Ulster Rugby or the IRFU.

They'll be recognised everywhere they go in Belfast now, there's plenty of nutjobs out there, that even heading to the shops could be an ordeal

Could well be in their interests to move on

All that has come out in this trial imo is that they are not particularly pleasant lads.

And not to condone their behaviour or the words they used, it's unfortunately no different than a lot of lads their age.

I really don't see any grounds for "not letting them back" into Ireland or Ulster squads.

I heard PJ was away to france and SO to London, contracts ready to sign.

Why wouldn't they play for Ireland and Ulster again. They're innocent. The case should never have went to trial

I was told both were off to Exeter. Kingspan not having them play for Ulster again.

Fully believe if wanted they should be allowed continue at Ulster. Trial by social media is awful and while unpleasant the only difference between their actions and many others is it was broadcast to the world in minute detail

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,031 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Personally I'm happy to have them back. But I completely understand the other argument.

They may take the decision themselves to leave anyway.

Yeah cause I'm sure they were busy negotiating contracts while in the dock.

I'd be fairly convinced that anyone who "knows" where the lads are going next is full of it.

I've heard the Exeter rumour but then everyone has a variation on that. I'd take it all with a pinch of salt.

    We'll see what happens.

Big difference in being found not guilty and innocent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,375 ✭✭✭padser

I would really really hope that two lads accused of a crime that they are not guilty of would be finally allowed to proceed with their lives and careers.

Yeh because they don't have business managers or agents working for them to do that when they are busy with other things.....

Just a reminder folks. While the trial is over, boards still remains a forum where slanderous/libellous comments will be removed and users banned. Stick to the facts of the case if it's being discussed, and the future of the players. No speculation on the rights or wrongs of the verdict or anything that calls into question anyone's character.

Really? Why? Because they engaged in group sex?

I do think they will leave Ulster. They shouldn't have to because they have been acquitted but there was too much publicity and people like yourself clearly have issues with them so the best thing for them is a fresh start somewhere else.

Well they courts don't give verdicts on innocence do they? Just guilty of not. Bigger difference between guilty and not than not guilty and innocent. Not guilty they should be allowed to restart their lives that have been ruined
