Youd be suprised what happens when certain cultures decide to just piss all over the cabin. Piss is a great at eating into aluminium.

Please tell me this is a pisstake, pardon the pun

A few months ago I read here about mood lighting and cabin updates on the fleet.
Is this still happening? Which aircraft have/are due this?

I’ve seen some photos on Instagram of one of the older A330s with mood lighting, a very obvious blue/geeen hue compared to the usual white so some aircraft must have been done over the winter. The screens were still the 2007 era model so it wasn’t one of the recent deliveries.

only EDY has it so far, the company wanted it on trial for feedback, costings etc first and it will be rolled out eventually i heard, with the hectic schedule coming and staffing issues it doesn't allow it to be fitted anytime soon.

There's normal cool White, Blue for boarding, purple and an orange colours

All the IFE monitors have now been retrofitted to newer ones, they look similar to old ones but that's only the caseing, the hardware and behavior is completely different

Personally I can't see what all the fuss is about mood lighting, I don't think the passengers get anything from it at all so I don't know why any operator would bother paying to add it, most passengers probably wouldn't even notice it.
I actually found it very annoying when I first came across it on a flight a number of years back. I was flying business class on a day flight and the senior cabin crew member asked us to keep the blinds closed so we could get the full effect of the mood lighting. Over the next number of hours we sat in the dark watching the strip light in the hat rack do it's thing changing from purple to blue and every other cover when most of us just wanted to look out the window.
I'm not saying it's not pretty, well and good if it's already installed but I wouldn't spend money retro fitting it...

Seat pitch and seat width are the two most important things for me. IAG do not give a fk, BA787 , old style 747, and vuelings airbuses are among the most cramped in the air. EI are not actually the worst here but in no way the best in class. ( talking about economy class to be honest )

Only advantage i can think of is no more flourescent tubes. The LED units are more reliable.

I agree with you, it’s not a big deal but it does make the interior appear more modern and I find you can get a more accurate level of lighting. E.g. dim cabin lights on older Airbuses is actually very bright, too bright in my opinion

Totally agree with this, the new EI planes though have a much smaller pitch and it is very noticeable. Flew NYC last year and the difference between the older outbound aircraft and the return where startling! I'm not very tall but I was super cramped on the flight back!

Not doubting you but wondering how this can be true when the physical plane is the same size and the number of seats are the same? Are the seat backs thinner on some planes or the galleys smaller?
I travel over and back to the US a good bit and I don't notice a difference. I find the flight back appears to be more cramped but I think that is due to me trying to get some sleep so looking to 'expand' more.

Presuming that your speaking of the A330's, I cant see how this is possible! They all have an identical interior! The only thing that may be different is some have the older IFE box under the seat in front slightly reducing space.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,379 ✭✭✭goingnowhere

The number of seats on the 'new' A330's is the same as the older A330 (in fact its 4 less on EI-GAJ/EI-GCF)
The horrible box under the seat for the IFE is gone on the centre 4 block of seats so there is more leg room which is great

The seat is certainly different but can't say I noticed any difference in comfort or space

Perhaps I'm incorrect but it felt noticeable and a lady next to me joked about it as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,172 ✭✭✭trellheim

was it the same seat perchance ? Many seats are different pitch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,920 ✭✭✭billy few mates

Don't forget the A/C tapers the further back you go, the seats on the sides in this area have to be narrower in these areas so can definitely feel more cramped.
    This happens on every A/C.

Seats on the sides which are ac and hk on ei aircraft are the same the whole way up. There are narrower seats in the middle rows at the bulkheads and from about row 38 aft. Not too sure about the newer 330s as these are different seats.

There's no cabin refit til next C check...it'll be Qatar interior...it will get a lick of paint though....

When you say no cabin 'refit'... Will they change the seat covers to EI green or will the entire interior be Qatari until C-check?

Good to see a low-use/shorthaul spare to assist in recovery when aircraft go offline.

When you say a lick… White fuselage with titles and shamrock, or the full livery?

A temporary livery that has been used on the 757s and a 767. You can see the latter here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0ndu3ao-HM
Some of the 757s had the livery for a bit before they could be fully repainted.

No qatari maroon interior until next winter, there's a premium economy section too I think it extends aft of door 2

QR don't have PE on any of their aircraft.

In fairness I’m sure Qatar have kept the cabin in very good condition so not changing that wouldn’t be such a big deal. I’m glad they’ll update the livery though
