OOC : there's a level of tech that deals with limb regrowth. But it's pretty high. I think 9 or 10 offers robotic prosthetics. Gun Combat =/= Gunner. Gunner is the Ship Pew Pew skill.

I think it's fair game that the characters would talk about their capabilities to divvy up the jobs. First time you're asked to roll on something we'll find out what your skill is anyway, and I assume you're all like me and have been writing down who got which static resolutions :D

Bear in mind, any skill at 0 is the difference between "I can <skill>" and "I can't <skill>". 1 or higher is where you 'git gud'. Level 0 is 'Roll without penalty'. So for example Pilot-0 means you know how to fly the ship but say under pressure you might drop the landing gear instead of venting aft thrusters and crash. Pilot-4 would be Han Solo. Also, if you have Astrogate-0 you can read a star map. And comms-0 so you can work the radio. You were born to sit in the drivers seat.

OOC: Thanks for explaining that Banjo. As it happens, I have a PPL in real life, so those three skills (Pilot, Maps and Comms) had to be learned! :)

We need an engineer, I'm happy to continue doing that if you're all happy to stay the **** out of my way while I do it. Medic is already ably filled by Nestor. OOC : In other words, cards on the table time. My key skills are Engineer (E-2, 1 point each in Power and Electronics - hence the home-made taser gloves and other devices which you'll find all about if you assault me again), Language, Streetwise and Carousing. Only one of them is useful in space really :D My key attributes are intelligence and education. What have the rest of you got?

Ooc: Still trying to get my head around stuff and my character's characteristics. All help gratefully received.

OOC question on this.Do skills stack? I took Med a few times in my character building and ended up with a career list of Med0, med0, med 1, med 1. Would that stack count as Med3 or something?

OOC: I have the same, a few instances of a single skill. If they stack i might be useful :P :P :P

OOC : Disclaimer - I AM NOT A DM! Or the captain, apparently :D So take this with a pinch of salt. But I am an enthusiastic reader and an imaginary war criminal.

Go back to your character creation report. If you were given a skill, eg Drive-0, you get Drive-0. If you were given Drive with no number, that's either Drive 1 or if you already have drive it's Drive+1. (i.e Drive 1 goes to Drive 2.) If you had Drive 0 and then got Drive, it just goes to Drive 1 I think, which is a kick in the nards.

If you have a skill at 1 or higher, you can specialise where available. E.g. I had Engineering 2, I split that into Engineering (Power) and Engineering (Electronics) - because when would I ever need that M-Drive speciality, eh?
I started putting the skills into my character sheet. Here's a blank version :
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EOYRllCFejSzaadtAydea1wgEkzmDOIfHF2tKp_RkHQ/edit?usp=sharing

Note : when you chose your career, you were given a set of skills at 0 in the first year, this is to represent your basic induction training - the competence you need to do your job at entry level. As you went along, you may have earned a few skills from rewards / promotions - those tend to be the ones with no number on them. The more careers you had, the more Level 0 skills you have.

Four confirmed that once we got the ship we could choose a skill pack - a generic set of skills we choose as a team that all of us get. We all get the same pack though so there's bound to be redundant stuff in there.

Finally, if you chose a homeworld, I think you get to pick 3 relevant skills that you would have picked up on that planet. Dunno if we're doing that. e.g. Evan is from Tyrfing in the Sword Worlds sector. It has a thin atmosphere, so he would probably have Vac Suit 0. This is just an example, I'm not desperately trying to get relevant skills before you throw me out an airlock :D

OOC: Ok, assuming that my arm is back to normal and all my skills are as they were, Ive 0 Athletics, electronics, flyer, gun combat, language, vacc suit and melee. Ive 1 gambler, leadership (lol), mechanic and pilot, as well as 2 melee with blade (sigh).

I reckon that puts me at pilot or co-pilot in terms of my usefullness. Depends on Glenn and his pilot skill level.

    OOC: Actually, you know what....

Dhinor goes to the armoury and checks for blades. If there are none there, he procures himself a knife in the mess.

If Dhinor still have bits of it, he attempts to repair The Negotiator using the blade repair training he gained earlier on in the adventure.

Seneca thinks about his characteristics and skills he has acquired over the centuries frozen in a pod. He wonders how he might improve himself and begins to do some push ups.

OOC : You keep your hands off my digger!

Retreating back to Engineering, Evan takes a look at the fuel situation to estimate how many jumps they can make in their current setup.
He looks at whether he can rig something with the Repulsors that might allow them to limp towards a starbase or planet. Failing that, (assuming that there's no such thing as pure vacuum) it may be possible to use the fuel scoop to slowly take on excess mass of rogue hydrogen, then rig the guns to act as tight beam mass ejector for that hydrogen to start creating acceleration. This might require a look at the fuel tanks to ensure they can be segregated so as they don't contaminate their remaining fuel. And it would leave them defenseless.

He considers trying to tinker with the J-Drive containment fields to create what Thorsten Ragnarsson used to call a "Binary Tinary" back in college and then force the two universes together, channelling the resultant explosion through the M-Drive vents to create thrust, but then he remembers what happened to old 'No Face' Ragnarsson, and with just 2 days to go to the Faell-U Ball as well. And Aslaug still went with him instead of Evan. The cow!

Seneca observes Milt looking tres cool doing all sorts of techie stuff. Feeling utterly inadequate and anxious that he may be seen as excess ballast, he says "I'll clean the toilet".

[OOC: Verne is a 0 in these traits: Athletics, Drive (all), Electronics (all), Flyer (all), Mechanic, Melee (all) and Survival.
Verne has 1 in the following: Gun Combat (energy), Heavy Weapons (Man Portable), Leadership, Pilot (small craft) and Recon.
And he has a solitary 2 in Melee (blades) and a **** off mahoosive reaver's axe to go along with that.
    446339.jpg

So with his **** off axe strapped firmly to his back, he heads back to the bridge [lets call it that] to retake the helm and try to figure out where they are and where they can get to.

Verne steps forward. 'All of this talk is all well and good but there's little point trying to make plans until we have a status report on the condition of the ship. Computer, can you tell us what condition the ship is in?'
The ships computer boots up full interaction mode after a long slumber.

"Hello Captain Verne, status report is as follows....

    M-drive: Missing
    Jump Drive: Working order
Fuel: Half remaining, sufficient for one more jump
    Power Plants: Operational
Hull: Intact save one spot in Stateroom #5.
Crystal Iron Armour: Damaged to a moderate degree.
Food: 10 weeks worth based on current occupants.

Location is Blue, an non-aligned planet in Tlaiowaha Subsector. Three jumps from the border with the Aslan Hierate. Mostly human population of 70,000 concentrated in one city and nearby towns. Thin atmosphere and only one sea. Local culture is peacful, though tactile contact and overt displays of emotion in public is frowned upon. Culture is quite difficult to understand for outsiders.

Temporal Displacement: 2 weeks at 30% confidence. Updating within four hours."

OOC: Ship thinks Verne is Captain due to stats and first to bridge.

Verne scratches his head, well if the ship says so...... and no one has a problem with it?

'Glenn, can you contact the nearest planet to request permission to land for urgent repairs?
RJ.....uh......Evan, have our engines got enough power to set us down on that planet? Or do you have a better suggestion for our last jump?'

If we can get to the planet and make some sort of repairs on the ship we can have another discussion about where to go from there. We just have to hope that the planet don't consider the ship as stolen property. Is there anything on board that we could sell?'

Which engine? The one we blew a planet up to stop me from buying back? That engine? We have jdrive and antigrav. Don't make any plans, captain...

Nestor heals up Dhinor's wound beautifully. There is some slight burn marks remaining, but they will fade over the week.

Dhinor slots the last piece of the replacement focusing crystal into the blade and connects it up.

    349 days.
