Posting about the rugby coverage, I want to see if I'm on my own about this.

Mark's music montage about the Grand Slam today used Michael Corcoran's commentary from RTE radio on the Sexton drop goal. Am I the only one who thought that bit of commentary was a load of rubbish? Going on about how France had been 'absolutely destroyed' - that wasn't how the moment was. Media folks have picked it out as epic, but he just screams at the top of his voice. It's not actually good. It's funny in a sad way. Rugby has had some great commentators in the past. For me, Michael Corcoran is way off the pace.

The other thing is that I don't know of anyone who had serious interest in the game who would have been listening to it on RTE radio. People's memory of that moment involve the TV commentary.

I usually love the little music bits on Second Captains. I was looking forward to this one, but it was a bit of a disappointment.

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Michael Corcoran = rugby commentating gold. Don't diss!

You should go see a doctor, I think there could be something seriously wrong with you.

Vincent Browne pod was fairly cack. The disgruntled ramblings of an old man. Ken's questioning was poor enough too. For an articulate lad he said the phrase "y'know" far too often during it.

Paul Kimmage will be another misery guts to listen to as well. Didn't do great with the birthday bonus guests at all.

It's one of Ken's verbal tics to say "y'know" or, in particular, "D'ya know what I mean?" quite a lot. Harmless enough of course, but once you notice it you'll hear them all the time.

I like Paul Kimmage, I usually agree with him on things. It gets emotional towards the end, but I was riveted throughout

Kimmage is good when talking about stuff he knows about.

He is embarrassing when talking about GAA, soccer or rugby.

I thought the Kimmage interview was possibly the best players chair yet.

The Kimmage interview was excellent people can slag him off but you can never question his passion or integrity to fight for what is right, journalism needs guys like him and then talking about his father at the end, quite powerful

I thought that too, I don't mind him ranting about Mourinho when it's relevant it's when he show horns it in needlessly wrecks my head.

That Ken show was really good (and that’s from a Utd supporter).

But the constant **** about getting everyone in your life to subscribe to second captains and the constant ads is becoming borderline intolerable.

I pay for this **** so I don’t have to listen to constant annoying ads. But Eoin going on and on about independent spirits and the anniversary etc blah blah.

It’s self serving sky sports hyperbole by another name. I subscribe to second captains to escape this ****. Not to listen to the painfully crass false jocularity of the advertising features where loyal second captains listeners “out” their friends who only listen to Mondays and don’t pay subscription.

They only do this on the free shows don't they? The one you don't pay for?

Is it? Ha. That’s just how annoying it is though.

And whether the Monday podcasts are open to others or not - I am paying and the two Monday podcasts are pretty much the ones I’m guaranteed to listen to.

Really enjoyed the Kimmage interview. But then I enjoy every Kimmage interview. He's just so open and honest.

Kudos to Richie, he's learning to sit back more and let the interviewee dictate the agenda.

Don't know if you can give Richie kudos for that! Kimmage has a tendency to dictate proceedings regardless. Riveting pod though

Between this and the ridiculously long jingles the free pods are not convincing me to sign up. As someone who only listens the odd time, tuning in now compared to when they were with the IT is not as pleasurable an experience.
A couple of ads per pod would be less annoying. And would make it cheaper too. I think it's overpriced anyway

You think ~30c a pod is overpriced? Right....

I've a lot of time for Kimmage, but his ranting about Jim Gavin not saying anything worthwhile in press conferences really grated with me.

For a man who is so, so committed to the concept of sport and sporting competition, to knock the best football manager in the country for having his focus somewhere other than giving journos good copy was pretty ridiculous.

His good work far, far outstrips this single point, of course. But the point still stands.

Maybe the world of podcasts isn't for you? I mean if you're getting this worked up about pods having a coupe of ads on them, it's probably not great for your health.

Kimmage is a great interviewee. I'd give zero credit to Ritchie on this. In fact I thought some of his questions were a bit dim.
I also thought the long silences when Kimmage was clearly upset were crass and a better interviewer would have handled it differently.

I thought Richie dealt with it like he was doing a counselling session...and i'm ok with that

The Kimmage interview was superb, and the long silence at the end was completely justified, it would have been crass for Richie to jump in with some comment or question at that point. You could almost see Kimmage's face.

I enjoyed the Browne interview as well and it wasn't one I'd expected to like. I'm aware I probably come across as a happy clappy fan anytime I post in this forum but seriously, this pod is in general (and excepting US Murph talking golf!) so far ahead of the competition it's unreal. I'm really not sure what some people expect from it.

Jim Gavin has the best 30 players ive ever seen on a county panel. I wouldn’t be calling him any kind of guru. Especially when he can’t seem to control Diarmuid Connolly. He’s more of a del bosque than a Alex Ferguson.

That aside Kimmage made a completely moron of himself in his criticism of Gavin. Complaining he was 20 mins late for an after all ireland win press conference. And then a picture came out that he spent those 20mins with children who were sick and big Dublin fans.

Kimmage is admirable on so much of his work. But he is becoming a “rent a quote” on things he would do well to just listen and ask questions about as his understanding of rugby, soccer and GAA is poor.

Have gone into reasonable detail on here where I think the pod falls down and can improve so feel free to read and then you can understand where I for one am coming from. Sure just my opinion anyway.

I agree with you that it's well ahead of the competition.
    I don't expect much either,it's good value.
I just disagree with your view on the Kimmage interview.
You can understand that, can't you?
