Happy Gerry Adams Day?

It seems New York mayor Bill de Blasio said that st patty’s day should be renamed after the terrorist excusing ex leader of SF. You would think with NYs recent issues with mass terrorism that the city’s mayor would have a bit of a cop on with himself.

Maybe he can visit here and go for a long walk on a beach to discuss tactics with Adams.

Imagine if a mayor from Northern Ireland suggested having a day to celebrate the terrorists behind 911 attacks on NY. What an absolute clown that yank mayor is.

You'd be a bigger clown equating Al Qaeda with Gerry Adams.

It always cracks me up when Unionists try and crowbar the whole '9/11 was the same as the IRA' rubbish into a discussion and then five minutes later they'll be fawning over the RUC and UDR who tortured people, murdered people and colluded with Loyalist paramilitaries.

The reality is you're no more anti-violence or morally correct than Gerry Adams, and you've no problem with the type of stuff you're criticising him for as long as it was your side doing it.

Rather than give out about New Yorkers you should start closer to home and focus on the idiots who celebrate a battle from 1690.

Let me assure you FTA that Adams lost his moral compass many, many years ago. No “long walks “ on the beach with a nonce either for me.

Maybe next year bill could call it Johnny Adair day (or any loyalist terrorist) to even things out in the name of equality. How crass and insensitive for a mayor of a city who saw for themselves just how romantic a terrorist attack was at close hand. Sickening. With a name like his he obviously has Irish blood too. :-)

It obviously goes over your head but the republican movement continue to have huge support in North America. The violence is not equated with al queda/isis for reasons a child would understand.

Yes, great result on Saturday. But I’m not sure the relavance of this though to a NY major jumping into bed with the ex leader of a party closely associated with a republican terrorist grouping. It’s an insult to the majority of people from NI who didn’t support terrorists.

Once you have a conviction for anything the States is off limits I would think.

It never made any significant difference whether he was or not. He was still a political force working at building the peace. There are former IRA men (most notably McGuinness) who worked for the peace and it never got in the way.
Adams being in or out was a sideshow for the moral high grounders only.

Well considering a lot of yanks refer to it as such more than provocative. A NY mayor honouring someone like the beach walker is provocative. Maybe they should give him and his brother the freedom of the city too whilst they are at it.

Aye, saw that shot yesterday too and Leo doesn't look a happy bunny does he?

Interesting though from another perspective... everyone else is focused on Gerry (regardless of whether they believe (in) him or not - it's the optics), but not our Leo.. looking straight into the camera - me, me me!
It's just a pity his lack of self-awareness makes him look like a sulky teen dragged to an event he didn't want to go to.

The vast majority of nationalists vote Sinn Fein. Given recent trends they are likely to be the largest party in the not too distant future. You find that hard to accept but that's what happens when you create sectarian states and somehow hope the minority just accept it. The minority in a generation might represent the majority and everything changes.

Gerry Adams has retired now and with the rugby I prefer to focus on what unites this island as opposed to focusing on a bleak past up north.
