More concerned about a lack of a gameplan than injuries or the result. Left 10 mins early, couldn't watch that muck tbh. Clueless in attack, spineless in defence.

Tyrone are a well drilled side and very strong in the tackle. Men against boys today.

Yeah feel sorry for the people who paid good money to see that. I just listened to it on the radio as I had a pretty good idea how it would go.

Winner takes all next week so against Donegal.

I hope Cillian and Lee don't have serious knocks.

Stephen Rochford was interviewed on Mid west i believe. Seems Lee Keegan has gone to hospital with a shoulder injury. Bloody disaster of a day.

Tyrone will be major contenders again I reckon. Started the league slow but have really grown into it and are ticking along nicely now heading into Ulster

As for Mayo the less said the better. I'm not holding out much hope of a result in Ballybofey, but I wouldn't overly lose sleep about relegation. It's whether they can actually get their act together by the 13th May.

Keegan has either broken his collar bone or dislocated his shoulder
Cillian at first look concussed but then seemed to limp heavily with a hamstring injury .
    Neither will play next week.
We got a glimpse of life after Andy today and it wasn’t pretty. If he gets suspended then our season may have ended today.
Whatever about next weekend we could be facing into Galway with a number of absentees and a lot of undercooked players .
That’s as low as I’ve felt since Longford .

Deegan was Deegan today but he got most of the big calls right bar Boyle who was lucky to stay on for initial yellow.

Overall I’m waiting on injury /suspension updates but I’m worried about May now

What a horror show, failed dismally to deal with the blanket defence.

Colm Boyle rightly given his marching orders for two yellows.Silly black card picked up by Andy for dissent.David Clarke’s kickouts will continue to be a weakness ruthlessly targetted going forward.Ger Caff is not the solution at full back.

Very disappointed with some of the newer brigade,Stephen Coen and Adam Gallagher. It must be noted nobody impressed today.

    Disastrous on the injuries front.
Looks like Cillian’s done his hamstring and Lee Keegan has dislocated his shoulder.

Monaghan did us a favour but it’s a big ask to get the vital point in Ballybofey based on today’s performance.A performance so lacking in intensity.

Don’t get me going on the state of the pitch, nothing short of disgraceful.More like a desert than a grass pitch.Kudos to Tyrone for managing to play that bit of football on such a surface.

At this moment in time it’s hard to see any basis in reality for a win on May 13th.

Well done to the Mayo hurlers on their league final win.

However I think he made up a new rule when he moved a 45 in 10 yards

    That was truly bizarre.

Even if we do lose in May, it's still important not to panic. The Super 8's will be a completely different competition, later in the year, and there won't be any decent team in the back door

Yes it sounds defeatist but at this stage we're playing at Division 3 standard and it'd be nothing short of miraculous to get to near our peak as early as May. I think we'll be relying on Galway being burnt out and being able to grind out a win in a ****fest of a match.

One thing that annoyed the ****e out of me today was mayo players constantly trying to hop the ball
It was clear from minute one the hall would not bounce properly
Yet for 80 minutes we persisted trying to do it and turning the ball over

Terrible pass from Tom Parsons to Keegan which left him blind to McNultys challenge. Didn't think it was a red as it was 50 50.

So much for Tyrone blanket....they came out and played football. Some of the scores and play were top drawer.

We didn't seem too bothered or in any way up for it. This was a shame as there was great support there. In the end we should have played Durcan or O'Donoghue up front as they were the only ones offering any resistance and effort.

The amount of ball that we lost in third zone in 1st half was cruel - lost kick outs, dispossession, daft turnovers etc. That set Tyrone up as they punished us with scores. We couldn't buy a point in this period and that's what hurt us.

At least we have the advantage next week of playing away from home. That should stand to us.

Ah in fairness, coming through the backdoor this year will be setting ourselves up for early elimination and it's not as if we waltzed into the last eight in 16 or 17 either. We can't continually expect things to miraculously come good as in the previous two years, eventually we will be caught and if we are relegated next week I think it will be a sign of decline.

If we lose we will have to play 4 games to reach the Super 8's, i wouldnt be too confident of doing that tbh

It will be a massive task for whoever loses. And that's what makes May 13th so intriguing. It's almost back to the days of straight knockout - it has that feel to it.

    That's Mayo's biggest concern imo.
    Staying up is very important.
Tyrone looking good again now is no harm for the hype machine.

It's acceptable to have a bad league but have a good team peaking at the right time.

Overall though it looks like a worse position to be in than last year if those injuries are serious.

Hopefully the lads recover, you'd wonder with some of the top lads, certain injuries finish them. Paul Flynn being a case in point imo.

A broken collar bone can be such an injury, things can go wrong when they set. Hopefully he gets the right treatment. Lads can become a bit windy protecting shoulders when they come back.

I'm gonna take a risk here. Firstly declare, I don't know enough about Gaelic football as I didn't play it and don't have enough knowledge to analyse it. However I've attended 12 Mayo games since this time last year, mostly enjoyable experience though often frustrating. Today was horrible, I didn't see any cohesive plan in what was played out in front of me. I didn't see any committed determined football. It seems amazing to me that with Mayo 6 points plus behind we seemed happy to let Tyrone play the ball around in their half with no pressure being applied.

I love all sports and what I generally see is that good teams put in a consistently good performance with rare blips. With Mayo you turn up and hope for the best that doesn't speak to me of a unit that is likely to succeed, I'm sorry to say. It's not my experience that good teams produce random performances as Mayo seem to do.

By the way why ( and this happens to lots of Gaelic free kickers) Kick the ball up in the air with the posts being a secondary target. From my limited knowledge there is no doubt but that all frees should be kicked off he ground ( Bryan Sheehan style) and directed at the target since you kick the back of the ball. In hurling we have high scores because the ball is hit flattish at the target towards the post. I don't understand why in football kicking isn't properly trained for..

You'd wonder if Mayo concentrated on the league , they could avoid the back door
I understand that this is an old argument, however I haven't heard someone say that a good league might save a difficult backdoor campaign, surely that's as taxing on a panel as a league? It's interesting that the slow start has forced a difficult championship run in the past two years.

I think people are too forgiving of results like today...obviously if you have a great championship you look back less on days like today but Mayo play badly more often than they play well under Rochford if you include league and championship. Granted, the results are all that matters and results have been good in the past two years even if performances haven't always matched, but the beatings we are shipping at home on a regular basis now would have me wondering where we are going, I mean if the goal is still an All Ireland, it's a very strange way to go about it.

The last 2 years Mayo have needed the final league game to stay up. They were lucky they improved later on in championship under Rochford, to save him some slack.

Could be another defeat to Galway, they are going well.

What is clear from today we need the half backs creating scoring opportunities and running game . Our 6 forwards can’t create on their own . Was it right the starting forwards didn’t score from play? Without Keegan or Boyle it was only Durcan that filled that role .
Boyle spent too much of his time covering infront of Cafferkey . Our forward play was so poor . It’s rare to see Mclaughlin not up to pace . What sort of training did they do to look so leggy .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

Is it down to the training? They looked very leggy today.

Our forwards on numerous occasions spilled ball and can't seem to create their own openings.

Black card truly justified for Moran, what was he thinking doing that to the ref?

Jesus lads ye were ripped apart today. Could Andy Moran get a lengthty ban for touching Deegan?

It was lunacy I thought he'd get a red card.Presume he won't as it's been dealt with unless Maurice Deegan mentions it in his report.

Looks like he will get away with seligehgit. The firing squad of the Sunday Game have glossed over it.

Will Andy be subject to the same venom as Connolly last year? Crazy for a man of his experience to be so stupid.

I think training had a lot to play in Mayo performance today. They will still be there or therabouts come August.
