Hi everybody, I got a job recently and I am looking for childminder. I have a family member that could do it but she is receiving Jobsekkers allowance at the moment. Is there any way she can't do it without being illegal? Unfortunately although my job is full time I won't be able to pay her full time as I am on minimum wage and if she get out of the social welfare payment, she probably won't be able to go back in if the circumstances change. Is there any way she could child mind for my and have some benefits? She is not registered or has any training but she minded my eldest before she stared to get the social welfare payment

To get a Jobseeker's payment a person has to meet certain conditions,

    1. Be available for full-time work.
    2. Be genuinely seeking full time work.
    3. Be capable of working.

If your relative is child minding for you, then she will not be available for full time work anymore, also if she is working for you, you will need to be paying PRSI for her.

I think that's only if they mind the child in your house.

If you drop the child off, you pay cash and they can settle up with revenue themselves.

That was my experience anyway. Having a child minded in your house is very expensive.
