The team as it stands is the worst team we have rolled into the off season with in many years.

The offense is fine, IF the LT position is filled.
We finished the year with a D that got killed in the SB (and a number of times during the season), and it's now weaker. And we pick 31 in the draft. Needs a Hightower/Jones type move-up in the draft.

I agree but I stand by my conviction this is the worst team we have had in the off season. Our defense bar 3 maybe 4 players is non existent.

This right here could be a problem though.

Waddle and Fleming are still both unsigned also. I hope we can tie up these two to cheap contracts I like both of them.

Looking at what is left over

    LT
Cole Croston - Saw some action in 2017 at Guard
Antonio Garcia - Our 3rd round pick in 2017 draft yet to see any action

    LG
    Joe Thuney - Decent enough
    Ted Karras - Decent enough

    C
David Andrews - Looked shaky at times but he seems to be getting better
James Ferentz - Some experience with the Broncos

    RG
Shaq Mason - I like Mason solid Guard
Jason King - Never played a snap

    RT
Marcus Cannon - As solid as can be
Andrew Jelks - Had talent in College but ACL and non football inury has him on IR since 2014

We have a lot of unknowns there and some guys who had solid college career but the challenge will be finding a Left Tackle among them or trying to find someone ready to go on FA or draft.

We have traded for Jason McCourty. Nice pick up to replace Butler

    Finally!

Glad it wasn't for another team that the two got to play together.

Mad to think they were releasing him only 2 hours ago and we trade for him? Weird.

Beginning to think the Pats got in there with a trade so he wouldn't hit the open market

Gave up a 6th, got back a 7th. If it's our own 6th for their own 7th that would be a drop of 2 places. Very solid signing.

Would there be any interest in Tyrann Mathieu? That would seem like a dominant secondary. Honey Badger would bring blitz presure from the secondary.

Sure up the D-Line and the Defence doesnt seem to bad,

Presume there'd be nowhere near enough cap for him??

His contract had less then 3 million left for next year, would of cost a lot more on the open market I guess.

That's a very cheap trade, and a decent pickup; hopefully just the first.

I agree but my point is the Browns announced they were cutting him 2 hours earlier. I wonder did the Pats offer the trade before the cut so no other team got to him. Otherwise it seems odd to trade for a guy that would have been a FA by the end of the day either way. I like the signing though

It seems quite clear to me that they did exactly that. They wanted him and didn't think he'd get to them on the waiver wire. It cost them virtually nothing.

So the only player we’ve brought in this offseason is another Rutgers player, Jesus F Christ!

But seriously moving down 14 spots in the late rounds to pick up a good CB who only costs $3m is good business. JMac was 27th overall CB last year in the entire NFL according to PFF. Butler was 51st. Gilmore 7th.

Now we just need a LT, a pass rusher and a LB

Quite clear? McCourty was a veteran and not subject to waivers hence why they terminated/cut him. He would have hit the free agency right away so it wasn't a case of passing through waivers at all.

The Patriots would have had the same opportunity as any other team to approach him. Hence why I said what I said. I just find it weird if that was the mentality of the trade. I would have thought the Patriots would have gotten him either way.

They probably thought he would demand more money this season as a FA.
So they drop 2 places in the draft to get him for less money this year...

Bademosi signs for Texans. Didn't realize he was a FA

Clayborn visits Pats today as does Jeremy Hill

We got Clayborn, massively talented player, could be a great signing. Always like when we sign an ex-Buc as we hav a good record with them although they normally come here straight from Tampa.

Two decent signings made for the D, and Hill could be productive as well.
Need some depth at LB as well; not sure we'll ever see a full 16 game season from Hightower.

Jeremy Hill expected to sign also

Another guy with potential but he hasn't really showed much over the last two seasons. Hopefully he works out, kinda expect him to play a similar role to what Blount did for us.

The draft has to be all out tackles imo. I know we have other areas to fill but protecting Brady's blindside is the most important position on the team for me.

I'd like to see us take McGlinchey from Notre Dame if he is still on the board and if not then Jamarco Jones out of the Buckeyes who I also noticed during the season and I watched a lot of Ohio State games.

Jones and McGlinchey probably the only two Pro Ready LT in the draft. I can't see either of them drop though. I feel both will go before the Pats at 31.

I like Conor Williams I think Scar working with him he would fit right in and perform. Only concern is a knee injury.

I do think this draft class is not as strong as previous years for tackles and there will be some good bargain in the 2nd round.

Eric Ebron visiting Sunday. He’d complement Gronk nicely

Eric Ebron could be great if we succeeded in giving him the minitron treatment I think. Minitron kept dropping the ball early in his career but they fixed him, Ebron has been dropping rhe ball for years, very frustrating player. He is still very young though so could be a great one if you can sort out the drops.
