I think that's my least favourite ever of his jobs.

I know there was a complicated brief with 3 generations (of frankly quite batty people) to cater for.

Just didn't do it for me at all.

    But wowzers, what a site!

I'd need to watch it again and read the comments re building out and on to the shed - I think I'd probably agree.

Me too . So much potential in that site and the old sheds and they get an ugly black box stuck on the house

There could be a second young lad in it if the two of them get that builder on his own.

It hardly came across as boasting , she was simply saying where she had been in the world , so what ? Lots of Irish people have lived and travelled all over the world ???? A touch of begrudgery?

A lot of people that post on here just look for something to give out about about the people on the show. They want people who haven’t lived anywhere other than the house they grew up in with no stories to tell, oh and they have to produce birth certificates for their offspring. And also produce bank statements and proof of earnings. 🙄🙄

That's a bit unfair. There's a grant to encourage people to build to a high level of airtightness and insulation. Less cost to heat and less CO2 in the future.

The cost saving to heat will take a LONG time to make up that 40k.

Just talking with wife here, if you break it down that they landed in on Ma, took over her gaff cos they fancied the view and then shoved her in the box room to boot. Its basically elder abuse.

That's the problem, collosal waste of money.

It's not, it is to save money in the future in penalties.
You would rather they wasted fuel?

I didn't like the kitchen. It wasn't Ma friendly. Oven not even near the counter and far too clinical.

    Ma's bedroom too small too.

the kitchen is desperatly crying out for a bit of colour or texture

The bedrooms are tiny. Ma deserves more, at least her own little sitting room

Granny should have had least had a bigger bedroom and the house more friendly for her, less steps and since she will probably be in the kitchen more it should have accommodated her.

Nice that the tax payer pays 40k for it.
They paid more money thsn 40k in taxes for the build.

Believe me it didn’t cost the tax payers anything.

That's it sure. They should just double the fuel allowance for The Ma.

I worked on a house years ago and the owner reckoned it would cost €1 a day to heat and have endless hot water!! It was a large house as well. I'd spend that much in a couple of hours!!

Maybe I missed the point but I thought the accomodation the way it was before the renovation was far more suitable for the lady who owned the house.

The steps up to the sitting area surely are gonna be an issue for ma in the near future. Bit of a stupid design idea

Looking at this house, just reinforces my opinion that they should've renovated the old stone shed and incorportated into the design.
I taught the exact same, but the would prevent the view for the old part of the house, plus its so far away from the old house to connect the two. The stone work to that shed looks lovely
It was a decent size site, I would hdvr thought they mcould get have levelled the house and build from scratch

There’s a second living room she can use on ground level

I am actually surprised that DB didnt pick up on the shed and its old structure. My only thinking on this is that the shed is owned by the brother, I need to rewatch the drone views again to see the extent of their site area. The steps leading up to what is the only view in the house will kill the Ma altogether, its ridiculous. Had they extended onto the shed they would of had several views from different rooms without raising a foot to another level. Hope I am wrong and that something prevented them from taking this approach to the design.

I had my eye on the shed as a lovely granny flat for Ma . She needed more space than the pokey bedroom she got .

Much better episode than the last 2. Fabulous site and gorgeous finish but I think poor old Ma drew the short straw.
Her bedroom was tiny, no ensuite and I'd have loved to have seen a lovely comfy chair in her room with a little table for her radio. She has nowhere to go for a bit of peace and quiet. That bedroom is not future proofed for her. God forbid she might need a walking frame or wheelchair. There's no way it will fit into her room.
I hope they put her old kitchen on Adverts, those blue cupboard doors could look fab in a retro kitchen.
All in all, glad to see RTI back on track

Thought it looked a bit ugly on the outside. The colour of the original cottage didnt really work against the colours of the extension. The old and new just lookeda bit out of place.

Then again, it may have been difficult to capture it on camera due to the layout

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,663 ✭✭✭MouseTail

All the bedrooms were in the original cottage I think, assume Ma's bedroom is her original bedroom spruced up.

Cos he said "over my dead body", at one point, for effect.

Now you know to steer clear of click bait shams like joe.ie
