There was this thing I always used to see in the kids section growing up, it was like a cartoon version of the Ugly Duckling story. Always thought I'd get but in the event, I just rented Pokemon Stadium out again till we eventually just decided to keep it and never went back to the store.

    It's disgustingly good :)

Always wanted to see The Garbage Pail Kids Movie which I believe was a big flop!

There was a small supermarket in my town when I was growing up. The upstairs had videos to rent. We were late enough getting a player but I was obsessed. All I wanted was to find a way in to this magical world of film.

Anyways when in the shop with my mam I would want to go upstairs but was too scared! I didn't want to be up there alone with all the scary films but at the same time wanted to go look. The ones I remember are Hellraiser, a James Bond one, and another scary I can't remember the name of. It was about a crazy man who hung up women and set them on fire.

When we eventually did get a video player my uncle rented that very film and played it in my house one night. I saw some of it after much pestering of said uncle and jaysus I wasn't right for nights after it.

To this day I absolutely love films. After watching one I have to go straight to IMDB and wikipedia to read about it and see if I missed anything. I want to know who the case was and if I recognised them from anything else :)

That can only be this. Haven't seen it but it was one of the films prosecuted as a video nasty in the UK in the 80's

I remember seeing this one in my local video store and never forgot the title. Didn't rent it as the subject matter sounded very grim.

A surprising number of the movies mentioned earlier popped up on the MGM Movies channel that Virgin used to carry...

"To follow knowledge like a sinking star..." (Tennyson's Ulysses)

This pre-dated Romper Stomper by several years. I spotted it in a video store circa 1990ish but didn't get it out.

I remember seeing a raunchy trailer for this on some other VHS movie back in the day, and wanting desperately to see it, just for the nudity

Oh yes that's the one. My mam was absolutely furious with my uncle afterwards. I remember he tried to tell me - in an attempt to keep my fears away - that it was all just a game and everything worked out ok in the end.

    Ah memories :D

The book it was adapted from was written by Jeans Rhys as a kind of prequel to Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca. It tells her story.

    She lifted her eyes.
    Blank, lovely eyes.
    Mad eyes. Mad girl

    Jean Rhys.

To even have held it up and seen the synopsis at the back was a big promotion in the ranks.

There wasn't many blind spots in our video shop.

Police Academy I must have been the most rented video in the place.:pac:

    Simpler times.

This one always facinated me when I was about 13/14 in the video shop.

About 10 years ago I tracked it down on Amazon or Ebay and had to buy it.

Complete and utter $hit but worth every cent.

Well Ill be damned.........I actually saw that when I was 8 or 9 in the 80s(God knows how), had forgotten all about it, loved it........I subscribed to a website/app a few months ago that I hardly ever use but I just did a search for 'The Stuff" and they have it! it has loads of cheesy (and some actually quite good) Horror movies (only a fiver a month)

Id never trade the convenience of 2018 for the old days but I must say this thread really takes me back, I miss those times, used to spend around an hour trying to decide what to watch and some of the video covers looked amazing(or at least they did to 10 year old me, Id imagine 99% of them are rubbish....but still)

Lol, I used to collect the Garbage Pail Kids Stickers. I remember reviews of the film at the time that totally panned it, still haven't seen it.
