    NO

Shane byrne on commentary, thinks the rules are still from the stone age

Enlighten me. It's crazy, looney toons stuff.

Ireland does not need to play France at home?
Ireland does not need to play Scotland away?
Ireland does not need to play Wales away?
Ireland does not need to play Italy away?

No wonder Ireland are top of table. How is it fair that England play say Scotland away, but we don't need to.

It alternates year by year. Google six nations basics !!

There's some confusion here among a small few posters on points and bonus points.
Winning teams earn 4 points, not 3 (which I think some here believe) , and a bonus point for 4 tries.
An additional 3 bonus points are awarded at the end of the championship to a side who wins all their games, to avoid the possibility that a team who win all games, could lose out to another team who gained loads of bonus points.

So for England to win the championship they need a bonus point win against both France and Ireland, overcome the points differential and prevent Ireland getting a LBP?

So it's our turn for an easy ride. What a competition.

Enlighten you? We're not discussing the intricacies of the offside line in the breakdown here, this is possibly the most basic thing you could know about the Six Nations! This year we played England and France away, and Wales, Scotland, and Italy at home. Next year it will be the other way around.

France and England away is by no means an easy ride

This is far from the easy year, this is the most difficult in fact. France and England away is widely considered the more difficult of the two.

That's a very tall order, I think the championship can safely be called a wrap.

No not really. we have England and France away this year. This is traditionally the tougher year to attempt a grand slam.

That is a stellar contribution. Rock in, no idea how the competition works, denigrate it when you find out. Stellar.

    Onto the list you go.

Surprised Healy wasn't subbed right after his knock. He didn't look great in that scrum afterwards at the end of the first half.

A solid display by Ireland although we were considerably assisted by wayward Scottish passing. Our defence out wide is still stressful to watch. The back row deserves credit for neutralizing their threat. Was Cronin's try legit? He didn't look bound there for quite some time.

Positives for Scotland were few; they were good at the scrum and Kinghorn looks an excellent prospect, light on his feet.

More grandad peeves: defensive players running back and obstructing a contest and even tackling for a kicked ball that is caught. Rugby refs have to pick out the Oscar-winning infringement from so many. It's a thankless job.

I thought I was hallucinating when I heard that. He is talking as if we have won it already. Am I missing something? Did I misinterpret him? I'm 3 sheets to wind at the moment so not thinking clearly...

Ditto, I'm a fair few pints in now but I'm pretty sure he was talking about being proud of winning the championship at home rather than away? Calm down there, Joe!

I know it's against the charter to attack another poster, but you're some dick making assertions like that.

It is against the charter and you should know better.

And it speaks volumes to let him say what he wants because he has, in your eyes, an excuse. Which is you essentially pussyfooting around the issue because you’re afraid of it.

This has quite literally got nothing to do with the game today. It's a pretty remarkable leap to connect it to him giving the MOTM award to a guy he's never played with

As an impartial observer I was looking forward to seeing what Gibbs got out of him.

Good morning sunshine. How's the knife business? Slow this week? Don't you mean the attitude of the media to Schmidt (the greatest coach Ireland has ever had) is bizarre?

My prediction is Ireland by 20.

    You called that one well.

If there was ever any evidence that some people just despised Rob Kearney for no reason whatsoever, there it is.

Imagine attacking a person who struggles with anxiety and depression because he gave MOTM to a player he didn't like.

Just want to note I'm not grouping all of RK's detractors in the same bracket as above.

Hopefully! Think it's a case of tbp today and England still in with a shout. No tbp and they are out of running.

For a GS point of view, ironically England may be more of a threat at home if they don't get a tbp today. Playing at home, not satisfied that they had a decent tournament, chance to stop Ireland's Grand Slam etc. But that's all speculation!

kearney was ahead of the kicker. should have been penalty to blue
    barnes gonna barnes
murray with the arms in the air appealing for pens. every week. just play the ball.
    barnes......for both teams.

people accuse teams of being ill-disciplined and quote penalty stats. its more nuanced than that, when any ref can make it up as he goes along
    complete double standard. a lottery
    toner in the side there
    this ref is an aberration
barnes will squeeze the life out of it now.
where is denton supposed to go. thats a joke
he is applying a level of pedantry to one side only
barnes has decided the fight back ends here. picky all of a sudden
You available to ref at Twickenham next week?

You can disagree with people's attitude to players and what not. That's subjective and perfectly fine. But to bring somebody's struggles with depression into it is idiotic. We have enough stigma surrounded mental health in this country without dip****s questioning it.

Quinlan always bigs up lads he knows personally without offering a proper objective view on things.

It’s the kind of thing where he had already made up his mind last night that he was going to reward Kearney MOM regardless of how he played.

Same. He's an excellent player, but is one who does his best work in a pack that moves the ball quickly. He runs excellent line and has great acceleration. Gibbs knows him well and I'm sure that's what he would've wanted to build his pack towards to get the best out of Jordi and Henderson. I'd hope Ulster's new coach does this but it's not as sure a thing as it was if Gibbs stayed.

Brian O Driscoll said it on ITV that actually if this group pull off the Grand Slam, it would be better than 2009 because in 09 we did it with France and England at home.

England will have a huge performance at Twickenham next week - simply to deny Ireland the Grand Slam. If England don't get the try bonus in France, then it's Ireland's championship, but these players will want the Slam. England only have two 6N Grand Slams and Ireland stopped one of them last year, so they will be hugely motivated by that - it will be the 8th opportunity that Ireland have to complete the slam.
