Obviously the link above is an extreme case. But I know of countless people in free houses, getting plenty of support who have a tonne more disposable income than the "middle class". One more baby = bigger council house, more payments etc.

But you see the same with single people.

The problem is not the kids or the payments for the kids. It's that the system is designed in a way you can stay on it.
It's not a get rich scheme but it's the easiest way to live comfortably in Ireland at the minute, particularly in Dublin where the rest of us are struggling to keep up with rent.

I agree, it can be painful especially with the current levels of rent.
But have a look at people trying to find landlords to accept HA. So even if you're unlucky enough to be out of work temporarliy it's very hard to find a landlord to accept it. Waiting lists for "housing" are into the decades for some.

It sounds great. Free money, Free rent, it's not all it's cracked up to be.
A poster above spoke about being an 18 y/o single non working mother and having a pile of money, shopping in Dunnes etc. You can bury your head in the sand all you like, there's a pile of people playing the system & living better than us all.

    Right,

No one likes to hear these stories, but again. It's the system that allows someone like to this long term that's a problem. Not the additional amounts per child.

Trust me, single people on the dole shop in dunnes too.

Why has Dunnes become such a luxury place to shop ?

Leo made no comment in his latest update!

He can’t really, the court is sitting today. He’d be roasted for political interference if he did.

I was completely in agreement with that post until the payment added per child. If I lost my job, the fecking last thing I'd think I need is another child. If I want to raise a child I should & will make sure I've the means to support it, I shouldn't expect the taxpayer to fund my lifestyle.

Absoloutley, but unforrtunatley a lot of people are financially setup to have kids and then hit hard times. While it's great to make sure you're in a good place before having kids. Anything can happen for that to change. I just think the child shouldn't be "punished" for that.

I don't expect anyone to pay for my kids but me, But I'd like to think if hard times came they'd be looked after
Your original point re: dole being a permanent thing is part of the issue. They have no need to look for a job as every possible situation is catered for by the taxpayer. Want a bigger family? Sure, we'll give you a bigger council house & more money.

Right and we're going around in circles a bit. This goes for anyone on the dole. Not just people having kids.
It's utterly disheartening to work your ass off, trying to rent in Dublin, scraping together a house deposit so I can provide for the family I've been delaying due to not having everything in place to have one. Paying 50+% tax to support those that don't even give it a second thought.

    No argument here.

But again, this is not because people are having kids. It applies to the childless singletons also

Burning out the cars seems to be getting ignored in favour of the Lidl story (which is obviously disgusting). I'd say burning out people's cars is a worse crime.

    Have these scumbags been named?

So abortion is going to be forced on them to cut back on government spending?

This is the dumbest post I’ve read in this thread. That’s some achievement.

Where did I say it would be forced on them?

Just maybe disadvantaged people won't feel like they have no choice when they are faced with an unwanted pregnancy. They could abort, they maybe able to have a future then instead of been trapped in a vicious cycle. The children in these videos like last night are a by product of a broken system. The perpetrators no nothing but been scumbags that how they were raised.

Education and choice is the key to change.

The education is there and free. The choice is also free.

What do you want him to say? If he did say anything he would need to be very circumspect, given that legal proceedings may happen. The outcome of previous court cases from that part of the world did not turn out too well for the authorities.

In the overall scheme of things it is a minor event, just made to seem more important by the social media videos. In the UK £100 million was stolen from peoples bank accounts in 6 months by scammers. But because there are no videos, it doesn't get on the news.

I didn't really expect him to say much to be honest.

The main difference between this and the event in the UK is people lives could have being put at risk due to reckless behavior.

Children in some parts of those areas were bred like cattle for financial gain through various welfare payments and fast track social housing. Stop child benefits and housing single mothers.

    Scum breeding scum.

Suspects are to be brought before the court....suprised to see a discussion on here regarding an ongoing court case.
But I suppose thise who looted Lidl aren't rugby players.

I would imagine that once they are named and charged, the thread will rightly be locked.

Single mothers are all scum now, are they? Was it single mothers who broke the roof off a supermarket?

In fact you could see one of the looters celebrating with his father in one of the videos.

    Cop on.

"We are not the ones who broke into that shop and CCTV will prove that," he said

He probably thinks that because he didn't actually do the breaking in he didn't do anything wrong.

Good mix of irish and ethnic names there. It's great to see multiculturalism and integration is working.

Mod- Now that people have been charged with a crime we are going to have to lock this till we hear back from the boards higher ups. We'll update this as soon as we hear anything.

This is a common thing when a court case is in the offing and it probably won't be opened again till after the court cases.

Please don't open any more threads on this subject as they will be locked.

Mod- So the higher ups have come back. Sorry but the thread stays locked till the courts have had their say.
