You in the Shadow of Mount Leinster?

Not quite. That’s a good 30km away at least.

Low temps, weight of snow, freezing H20 makes lines less flexible etc

I'm just wondering are people possibly overloading networks in some areas too with a lot of electric heating loads.

For those of us expected in work tomorrow I presume it's reasonable to say now I won't be able to make it in. I live a 20 minute drive away

Taking Cavan and Monaghan out of the red warning seems like an error of judgement to me. They are very likely to see in excess of 8cm more.

2”+ of snow now on the ground here near Mallow - amazing drifting even at this early stage. Never have I ever seen anything like this.

Delighted for you , you waited long enough ;)

Depends where you are. Most councils have said that they won't be gritting/clearing roads until tomorrow afternoon.

Where are you? I doubt roads will be open in dublin tomorrow morning. Could easily make up an excuse your road/cul de sac is impassable anyway even if the council are continually gritting main roads tonight

Real heavy snow in Bray now and not forecast to stop until Saturday acccording to the apps I use. That's an incredible amount of snowfall.

This is fairly insane here in D16. About 25cm of accumulation on my garden table, drifts have started crawling up my hallway windows. About 12-16 inches now I'd say.

And the main show is only just about to begin. Suddenly concerned about food and electricity.

A picture from Waterford a little while ago. Fine snow driving sideways. It's cool!

Met Éireann has just changed the warnings again.

Red for Munster, Leinster and Galway.

Orange for Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.

    Both until 6pm Friday.

Nah. That kind of stuff is easily manageable.

Maybe for the next weather event automatic bans can be handed out for posters that write off an event before it has even started . Would certainly make it easier to navigate the threads and a lot less annoying to read.
Anyway it's snowing in Dublin now so Red advisory is accepted I guess ;)

Its been snowing in Dublin all day.

Snowed all day in Monaghan Town. Albeit a light fall at times, but falling on accumulated snow. Main roads treacherous as I was out and about 2 hours ago. Very strange downgrade and wind starting to pick up now.

Mind me asking where in D16? I'm Just off Sandyford Road and still seems like the ice pellet/fine grain kinda stuff to me?

Went into Dublin city centre for a packet of lemonsips. very driveable and about 20 taxis operating. not much snow around high buildings but whipping up around intersections. you def don't want to be walking in it and some people couldn't hold on to the floor although they might have been otherwise impaired!. snow looks deep in places but really isn't. One pub open on wexford street. bring a brolly if you must walk in as it would be useful for identifying drunks under the snow

Just left a big piece of plywood leaning against my front door, don't want it falling into my halway in the morning...the snow that is.....

D7. Been pelting down with the small icy snow for hours and the depth has risen slowly but considerably. Drops look more like flaky snow now. Have a feeling we won't be able to open the doors tomorrow. Mesmerising to watch and go out into briefly!

Why did I think it was meant to ease off after 11pm?

The back garden is getting absolutely mullered here (Tallaght).

    Never seen accumulations like this.

Just back from the roof; the gusts are the problem, it makes it difficult to get comfortable and can lull you into a false sense of security. There are good boundaries though so no issue of actually blowing off.

Visibility is not too bad as the snow is still light. There was a consistent lathering of it on the roof earlier today but now it has all blown into two corners of the roof, remarkable how this has happened. There is just a pile of snow up to my knee in a corner of the roof while other parts have no more snow. Exciting and exhilarating, pics not great unfortunately!
