Commenting on the possibility of a Status Red warning, Cusack said they will have a clearer idea of whether one will be issued by midday tomorrow.

"The 48-hour Met Éireann forecast will have kicked in and we will be making serious consideration on the Status Red for Friday."

After getting very cloudy and feels bitterly cold here a few miles North East of Tuam. Very, very light showers of graupel blowing about in the breeze a few minutes ago. Wasn't expecting anything at all here until much later this evening or tomorrow.

Clouds rolling into Dublin off the Irish sea

For those with the equipment, I am assuming it is too warm for snow in cork city right now. Hopefully we will avoid precipitation until the temp plummets

Full blown blizzard here in North Tpp... 5 degrees and clearish blue skies.

Impressed that showers are making their way to western coastal extremities, very light graupel showers, should provide moisture for a frost to form tonight.

First of the colder airmass showers is landing around about the Rush/Donabate area of north county Dublin now. Nothing major at all but the sign of the real cold airmass and convective sea now evident in the country.

Plenty of convection now building upstream over the Snow Machine, I mean Irish Sea

Few flakes floating in the breeze in Strandhill, about an hour ago. Sligo though, mostly sunny today.

Bit surprised at how far West these showers are pushing.
    Any reports from Western counties?

Bright and sunny in West Mayo. But we were not expecting much until Thursday.

    I wouldn't bet on it.

Although the way we are going so far, this would be fine for the job

With a bit of luck you could avoid all this white stuff. I'm in the front line, East Meath on the coast. What I wouldn't give for a few days house swop to the far West.

The RTE1 lunchtime TV forecast said it will be heavy rain on the south coast Friday / Satuday and an indicated 6C temperature.

Or did I see that wrong ??

    No, that is what they said based I suspect on;

    https://www.ecmwf.int/en/forecasts/charts/catalogue/medium-mslp-wind850?facets=Range,Medium%20(15%20days)&time=2018022700,96,2018030300&projection=classical_europe

which shows the remains of EMMA having moved NW wards to a point west of Kerry and dragging the associated trough(occlusion) a bit up over the country and introducing milder air in the SE'ly flow behind it.. It really depends on where this trough line goes, how far north, does it stall, will it be forced south again!

I'm surprised too. Thought I'd be getting some alrite. But not Till at earliest tomorrow night. Nothing major falling here. Very light snow. Not even wetting the ground. But it's gone from a sunny, cold day to a cloudy, dark day. Didn't think I'd see any snow at all today.

    Leitrim area.

Surprisingly here in N. Donegal were having the same little light (very light) snow flakes blowing in the wind and i didn't expect that at all at this stage.. bodes well? Or does it mean nothing?

Been blue skies and sunshine here all morning and then clouds rolled in, got slightly darker and wind picked up a tad. Sunshine is still breaking through tough.
