Citywest gone mad again. Snowflakes getting bigger. And sideways. Road starting to whiten.

    Won't say blizzard

(can confirm the road is now white - with mild "hail" - but it has stopped again)

edit: now the sun is making it all disappear.

a rollercoaster watching the window waiting for an opportunity to go home

The RTE1 lunchtime TV forecast said it will be heavy rain on the south coast Friday / Satuday and an indicated 6C temperature.

Or did I see that wrong ??

Heavy rain forecast for the south on Friday on lunchtime forecast.

Also mentions the word sleet alot.

    No! :(

Roads are starting to get a bit slippy now between Blessington and Ballymore Eustace.

Also, it is only in the last 24 hours that people have had their expectations managed for graupel/hail/sleet to be falling at this point rather than snow. So that to me is a MAJOR downgrade. And yes, I am aware it is snowing it south wicklow.
This is just not the case. For several days now, all of the known and trusted forecasters on this forum were very clear that there would nothing significant on the East coast until Tuesday evening into Wednesday. That's been unwavering.
The only expectation managed in respect to this morning is that it was initially predicted that there would be light rain and sleet, which has since been "upgraded" to graupel/light snow.

It's not wonder people talk about overreactions when they hear forecasts that nobody made.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that some radio stations appeared to be relaying weather warnings last night about snow and ice without any information on when to expect them. I wonder if that's playing a part in some people's rush to claim that the weather has been downgraded?

Clouds just opened up here in D16. Lovely sunshine.

I t has been lovely with a stiff eastern wind all morning in Sligo.
But a big change in the last hour, the wind has changed to a northerly direction and it has got brutal cold
Blue sky is nearly gone to been replaced with a very dark area of cloud coming from Donegal area ie across from Mullaghmore

This is why people are confused...Lunch time weather giving it cold with snow and sleet but again they seem to be playing it down..a brief mention of the orange warning. While other forecasters are saying it differently.
They should all read off the one script...

Just wouldn't be trusting to those lunchtime forecasts by those non metrological folk.

Michelle Dillion forecast Along with Siobhan Ryan's were severe.

A fair few hail showers here in D11 and a good bit of sunshine, so bang on what was predicted so far. 4.3C. DP -0.5C, and rising.

BBC still showing all snow for Friday and another band of snow on Sunday.

Friday still doesn't looked nailed, still so much chopping and changing between forecasts.

    I hate this saying.
It snows in most Eastern European countries where it is much colder than anything we will ever see.

Its different kind of cold, you’re displaying an awful lack of understanding of the cold.

Met Eireann giving -5 as the lowest for Munster tonight. I wouldn't pay much heed of what anybody else says TBH.

I'm not saying we will get - 11 but considering the skies over my area look like they will be fairly clear overnight it is possible we may see lower temps than -5. I've been following MT's forecasts on a daily basis for along time now and he is usually not far off the mark with his forecasts. He's not always right of course but then again weather events like the one we are about to experience over the next couple of days is hard to nail down until nearer the time. Met Eireann try to forecast up to ten days which Is fine as beyond that time frame models can chop and change making it extremely difficult for forecasters to predict what will happen beyond that time frame.

A few light flurries here - I'm surprised didn't think we'd see anything until Thursday and really cold out too.
