Yes actually. She posts mainly in work and jobs and is very true to her real life persona. She would be a genuinely nice person and keeps that online it seems.

    You're only fishing for compliments.

Did you try to catch a sneaky glimpse of their username or try to figure out which forum they were on?
Nah good old fashion knicker sniffing still does the job for me :D
I know a few boards posters personally, League of Ireland fans mainly, and we'd all be from different clubs.

Just the one.. Our IT guy in work a decade ago used to post every problem he had on here.

Everyone knows my boards.ie and Reddit usernames and I've posted some really personal stuff over the years. I think people really overestimate how much other people care about their lives so try to keep it secret.

I remember I saw a teacher on Boards well over a decade ago. He was a bit of a P*ick!

He must have been a mod 😇

Met FlutterinBantum outside the sh1tters of an Iarnrod Eireann train service from Cork to Dublin once.

Cnut shook my hand as he exited the stall and said' take care of that son."

Fcking bowl was stuffed with jax paper and had a coil of fresh brown midden on top. A firemans blanket.

Yes, but I don't want to reveal who, only that I figured it out based on details they gave. I saw them round the place,in my personal life.

I wouldn't approsch people in person tho. I'm a total introvert.

    Boards.ie drinkies, Boards.ie LANs, Boards.ie clans, Boards.ie charity events...

Yeah. Seen maybe 100 of them at one time or another.

Once blinded 20 or so people with a disposable camera at a Boards.ie beers a good while back :P

yes, I recently discovered someone who I work with posts on boards (don't know their username), and once when I was doing my autism presentation I was getting my presentation up and ready (on someone else's laptop) and accidentally clicked on a tab which was the boards home page, I have been to 2 boards beers in the past :)

I would totally try to figure out who they are if I saw one, but I haven't.
I have met one or two boardsies for transactions or other, not very active posters.

I suspect some people at work are on boards but I couldn't be sure who they are. I do try to figure it out for fun and sheer innocent curiosity though :)
I suspect too that if someone at work knows that I post they would have me figured out, but I would hope not as I have posted some pretty personal stuff over the years.
Then again, if asked irl I'd be giving the same answers and opinions so I wouldn't be totally freaked out about it.

I like to keep boards as a personal little corner of my life, rather than have it an open topic with work colleagues or even friends.

Yes, met a few over the years, mainly through boards beers - remember them?

Yeah I've met a few out and about. Some at beers, a few I recognised from their pictures they've posted, some friends who I know who their accounts are.
There are plenty of folk in my office that use it as well, I'm sure they would have seen me logged in when they've been standing behind me.
My boss also uses boards, we talk about the YLYL thread, and I've seen him scrolling through when he's slacking off :)
Seen one or 2 people in public looking at it, also overheard people chatting about boards as well.

Aye, my father posts here quite a bit and I picked up on it after a few posts in one of the other sub-forums. A childhood friend is a rather prolific poster on boards in general, and I'm certain of a few lads from secondary school due to usernames on other forums.

I recognised one young male boardsie a few years ago getting on a bus at Fairview. I remember at the time he was posting a lot about his lack of success with girls and life et cetera. By the state of him, it all made sense, he was in desperate need of a shower, shave, haircut and fashion advice!

Seen Whoopsie in front of me in a queue M&S one day and so thought it would be funny if I accidentally on purpose bumped into her and said 'upsy-daisy' to her. So I did, but she didn't turn around, and so I did it again, only harder, but she stumbled forward and knocking the eggs out of a basket the woman in front of her was carrying. She then turned out and lost it on Whoopsie. Mayhem ensued, slapping, hair pulling etc and so I kinda thought the moment had passed at that stage and decided to pay for my stuff at another till.

I've met up with loads of folk through the site - mainly through business or beers.

I am happy to report none of them (so far) have been creeps or weirdos.

Aw, got my hopes up you worked for Aonghus von Bismarck before reading this part. :(

If I were to meet a member in public, a certain "hobby" of mine would be the topic of conversation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 25,004 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Met a fair few at beers, charity events, festivals etc. over the years.

Would be amazed to see someone using boards.ie in public though, they've never got the touch/mobile sites working properly at all. One of the main reasons I started using reddit tbh.

I read someone's post once on a thread once I was waiting on a flight in Dublin Airport and I remember thinking "that sounds like Dan" so clicked through the profile and then all posts to see if it could be confirmed. Turns out it (probably) wasn't who I thought it was but the search brought me to that old "Know your Nerds" thread with posters throwing pics of themselves up. Had a nose in there for a bit and not 5 mins had passed and this fella walked past and I thought "where do I know him from"?

It wasn't until I sat on the plane I realised he'd posted a pic in that thread. Small world.

I've never actually seen anyone posting on boards.ie in public (or otherwise) but I've met a lot in the last place I worked the door.

Mostly I've heard people talking about boards, and a couple of times I heard 'Is that Makikomi from boards' (is The Master still an AH Mod?).

I don't hide my identity too much, but I've photos of my motorbike in the motorbiking forum. Its fairly distinctive, a BMW R1200GS with two 'Judo' stickers on the back box.

I've also a few photos and video's of me fighting in the Martial Arts forum, so I'm always open to meeting boards.ie peeps :D

Did you get an Erikshin when he was bending over plucking his grapes from the bottom of the trolley? :D
@makikomi, I think you were training a friend of mine a few years back. Sang your praises if it was yourself. I'm not sure if it was you. Small pitch roof gym between two bigger buildings? He's long since stopped training now, and works as a static guard in one of the shopping centres. Weight piled back on him but sure that's what happens. I personally also used to do an odd nights work in a pub that you mentioned working in before in 'Cowtown' but not at the same time.
