So this is going to be an update for everyone . I rang the dealer this morning . They sold me the car and Also sold someone else the car this wasn’t done on purpose it seems the lack of communication also extends to their staff. The dealer didn’t want to tell me until something was sorted. He rang me today to tell me the truth and honestly I’m just happy it’s over I am going to be getting my money back today because I don’t really trust a company who doesn’t know what’s going on.

Glad to hear you got it sorted and sounds like you had a lucky escape. It can be daunting buying a car, esp a second hand car without the dealer messing about. I thibk its best to have all these questions ready, asked and answered when the deal is being done. I understand if paying by cheque a 5 day lead time is ok but otherwise when the dealer receives your money that car is yours and unless otherwise stated you should be able to drive away that same day. IMO the car being advertised should be ready(brakes, tyres ect) for the road when you turn up to purchase it. Anyway not a total waste of time for you, a few lessons learnt here.

Things like that don't only happen with old cars,
My neighbour went looking for a car last Sept, found a lovely suv, 6 months old, white, 6k on the clock, the managers car that was coming back in, test drove it and fell in love with it, put the deposit on it and came away smiling.
He was told it would be ready the following Tuesday, but he said it would be Thursday before he could collect it, that was fine they said,

When he went to collect it, the sales guy was off, and was brought out to his lovely BLACK model with 18000km on the clock, he thought it was a joke, till it wasn't funny anymore and left.
He rang everyday to see what was going on, and they were "sourcing" him a car, he demanded the car he bought, he was put on hold till he got fed up, he's busy, he's dealing with a customer, he'll ring you back, then the sales guy he bought it off didn't work there any more.

He stormed in one morning, demanded his deposit back, was asked to pop into the office to discuss it, he declined, would rather discuss it in front of the people browsing at the new cars, as to how a car he put a deposit on can disappear then be offered an older car in a different colour with 3 times the mileage.

He got his deposit back. (3 weeks of lies and bull from them, a main dealer too) we reckon the car was promised to someone, as it had all the extras on it, being the managers car.

This is what I cannot understand about Irish main dealers

They spent 5 days annoying the head off the OP when they knew come monday morning that the car was sold twice

It should have been a phone call monday morning explain the situation and offer a loaner car until they could get something suitable

Good on the person who stormed into the dealer after being messed around.

Someone else said my suggestion would be ideal if you want to be seen as a nutter. Absolute bullsh1t. When will Irish people cop on to themselves and demand respect when it comes to purchasing high value items like cars.

Twice now in the last few weeks I have gone to dealers about a few 6 month-1 year old 5 series and even getting so much as a phone call back is a struggle. So complacent again, it’s like as if the crash and salesmen on 2 and 3 day weeks never happened.

OP you dodged a bullet buying a near decade old Fiat to be honest, hope you find something soon.

I drove a 00 Punto, for 3 years. Got rid of it in 2014. Tyres, battery and exhaust manifold is all I ever did to it outside normal running costs. Just saying.

Hi everyone this will be a one reply fits all . I appreciate everyone’s replies and help here . I won’t be letting one bad experience with a car dealer put me off I will be going to look for another car tomorrow and Will hopefully find something decent within my budget. I don’t really understand all the hate for fiats but I will take it into consideration when looking. I was driving an 04 Mazda 3 hatchback so might go for a newer one. And I will take everyone advice and make sure I have all the answers before I drive off the forecourt. I will let everyone know tomorrow how I get on.
    Thank you again

    It was terrible advice.

OP buys a car on a Friday, doesn't agree any specifics re: handover day.
3 working days later we suggest he storms into the showroom and demands his car, that he won't be leaving without it.

Madness. You will rarely resolve anything in a standoffish manner like that.

Ask when the car will be ready, that's when it'll be ready. If that time doesn't suit, discuss a time that will.

Now in this instance something did go wrong but it's really not the norm and there s no way we could have predicted that when we told him to storm into the showroom.

I'd we're talking respect, you have to be able to show it, not just expect to receive it. Demanding things doesn't ever show respect, making you as bad as the person who won't return your calls.

We’ll ageee to disagree. If I’ve paid for a car in full and a week isn’t long enough for it to be ready AND I’m getting fobbed off, I’ll be fairly ready to flip the lid.

Exactly my kinda attitude also, you're paying for a product and service and they don't get a 2nd chance to be nice.
If I had been the OP i'd have been down there in person being a highly visible pain in the hole for the entire dealership.

don't ever be afraid to stand up for yourself if you suspect (even5%) that you're being fcuked about .
Face to face confrontation gets things sorted 10x quicker

Knowing on a Monday they had fcuked the OP over and not contacting him immediately is what i'd call the opposite of showing respect.

demanding what you've paid for is your right....You stick up for the dealer if that eases your mind, my sympathies lie with the OP who has lost all that time and effort for nothing, not to mention the stress of it.

I was reading the Leinster Express (I think it was) t'other day and seen a Skoda dealer with an 09 fiat bravo for sale, that sounds familiar I thought to myself, but when I had a nosey on the website it wasn't there,

I'm not defending the dealer but it's very easy to paint the unrepresented party in a bad light.

"Car was bought on a Friday, OP was informed 3 working days later that the sale had fallen through and his money was returned promptly", could be the unsensationalist alternate title to this thread.

    It's almost a non event.

Wouldn’t really call the title sensational but to each their own

Well done. The Focus is a fairly safe bet as well. Best of luck with it.
