I am surprised at how Ireland's Got Talent is doing. Perhaps it just because in its early stages and I think it will grow over the next few weeks up to the final. It got 223,000 adults.

RTÉ2 show when it makes TV it does well. Young Offenders getting 202,000 viewers, First Dates with 169,000 viewers, Don't Tell the Bride with 115,000 viewers. But sure a few repeats will do.

How does the TV3 6 Nations ratings compare to what RTÉ used to get? The lack of HD on Soarview make it BBC or ITV in HD on Freesat for me. I was wondering if it makes any noticeable difference or is Saorview just too small a market to bothe TV3?

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=98738620&postcount=361

    France v Ireland in 2016 was 554,000.
    France v Ireland in 2018 was 496,000.

10% Reduction only. I am surprised that TV3 are holding up as well as this.

Thanks for that. I’d have expected a bigger drop too. I suppose with a certain amount of people already on HD on Virgin and SKY, plus the large number of people who don’t care or even realize the difference between HD and SD it’s understandable.

That's it exactly. The amount of people who will happily watch the SD version of a channel while they have a HD version available is massive.

A few question all the same
    1. How many viewers have access to TV3 HD on Sky and Virgin
    2. How many viewers on Saorview care they don't have TV3 HD
    3. How many viewers watched on UTV HD and BBC HD via FTA satellite
    4. When comparing figures are you taking like for like, same match same day and time?
    5. How many viewers streamed the match?
    6. Did either UTV or BBC see increases in their audience for the matches this year?
    7. What were 2017 figures like?

I think its unfair to underestimate these figures.

Without 6 nations this week TV3 will need to prove that it was a good buy showing increased audiences for the week with out.

Most of the numbers you would like to see are not available.

I picked the 2016 match as it represents France away. 2017 we had France home, so more Irish physically at the game. You can't get an exact like-for-like match but I think that is as close as is possible.

I don't think BBC or ITV can measure ROI audiences.

I share my tvheadend set up with a friend over the internet and I noticed that he was watching the TV3 coverage even though the HD coverage was available to him. Its anecdotal but it does back up the idea that some people don't really care.

It is possible to run a poll here on boards.ie wether people are fuzzed or not in getting an HD version of a channel as apposed to an SD version. While I am fuzzed about video quality my older brother is not. He can't see the difference between HD and SD and I understand him because he wears glasses. Here is another question. Why is DVDs outselling Blu-Rays. HD in a lot of cases is a premium such as TV3 HD isn't possible to get without a Pay TV subscription.

I don't think BBC or ITV can measure ROI audiences.

BBC 1&2 are both available from TAM and I be surprised if UTV has really left its ratings system. Neither company are part of TAM Ireland or sell advertising here but both are historical.

UTV always did accept a certain amount of advertising from the Republic in pre-UTV Ireland days, and a huge percentage of their advertising in the 1990s was from the Republic. (One of the reasons they abbreviated “Ulster Television” to “UTV”). They were never ones to turn down good money when it was being offered, particularly in the days when they (and Channel 4) were the only alternative to RTE.

Whether any ROI advertisers are bothered with the channel these days with its much reduced reach I am not sure.

A week without 6 nations push TV3 slightly down. Both RTÉ2 and TV3 doing well with Champions League.

RTÉ2 just shows itself up and the lack of Irish programming on the channel. When it does show original Irish programming it does well with Young Offender getting 214000 viewers.

Red Rock fails to get into the top 20 TV3 show getting under 120,000 viewers. Ireland's Got Talent down slightly with out the support of Six Nations with 205,000 viewers. Ant and Dec pushes the Voice further back into the schedules, next week when it follows Six Nations and Ireland's Got Talent. It'd be nice to know how well The Voice is doing but it is getting under 120,000 viewers.

I was just saying that BBC ONE and TWO are both part of the TAM Ireland Neilsen Ratings as they would have made up much of the TAM ratings in the early years, the same goes for UTV, but UTV have disappeared from the monthly ratings while the BBC channels remain.

It's all a bit squashed now on the weekends for TV3. Ant And Dec on 9pm, The Voice UK at 10:30pm. Wonder what will happen when Britain's Got Talent returns, if Ireland's Got Talent will still be on by then. It usually starts once Ant And Dec completes their 7 week run.

I haven't heard how IGT will deal with the live finals - whether they are going to position it across a week or every Saturday. I guess positioning it across a week is tough with trying to schedule Corrie around it.

AFAIK the final is March 17th along with the end of Six Nations.
They could push Coro St and Emmers to 9pm as they don't have the same competition for those shows anymore.

No doubt we'll see a few weather specials breaking normal transmissions this week. It did wonders for ratings back when the storm was here, although snow isn't as dramatic, and you don't have as many screaming reporters on the piers across the coast.

3News starting at 16:30 today with a special news bulletin. Expect lots of these over the coming few days.

RTE One had RTE News Now, which was just basically a camera in the RTE Radio 1 studio this morning.

We all know they haven't the financial resources to be sending out reporters to cover this major weather event. Ah sure the had talk to Joe on this afternoon in his cosy little studio drinking coffee. He looked nice and comfy.

Why do we need reporters out on the side of the road anyway? It's absolutely pointless.

It is the way that news in currently done. It adds a bit of drama and visual context to the news but is, in most instances, quite pointless.

I’ve always wondered that. Reporters telling people not to go out in adverse weather conditions and they look for most exposed place in a storm to do a report.

Maybe its just that it makes good TV. Some like to see these reporters out and about where the rest of us wouldn't dream of being. There is a certain "thank god that's not my job" .. but yeah there is no real advantage to it.

I am in a European city and was due to fly back home tonight. I can't get a flight back in to Dublin where my car is and even if I could get there, I'm not sure if I can get home to Waterford. Up until I tuned into the RTE news at 6 this evening I had no idea of the seriousness of the situation. I now realise I am probably stuck here until at least Saturday. Reading the news online helps, but seeing the situation via live TV really shows me the depth of the problem back home. But there is no real reason to punish these reporters in the field.

TV Schedules dominated by weather reports today and tomorrow. Liveline on RTE1 (still a very strange decision) and extended news bulletins. TV3 have cancelled Elaine, Six O'clock Show, Xpose, The Tonight Show. News At 10 moves from Be3 to TV3.

Would have been nice for the other channels like 3e to break away from repeating Tipping Point and Jeremy Kyle and put on some sort of snow-y family friendly movie. Ice Age etc...

Have to start with Red Rock which hasn't appeared in the top twenty for TV3, meaning its getting less than 138,000 viewers which unfortunately Monday Nights Xpose received between Coro St, a show that Red Rock follows which had 273,000 viewers! Dissappointing to see Xpose survive and Red Rock get the axe.

IGT talent is suffering without an Irish 6 nations match but is up from last week with 231,000 viewers, but again its only the start of IGT. Anyone know when the final will happen I thought they'd aim for St. Patrick's week with final held on St. Patrick's Day following the end of the 6 nations, overall TV3 isn't bring in any new viewers with 6 nations with Coro St getting between 252,000 and 285,000 viewers however 3e will pick up viewers with its move to the channel on Friday Night.

RTÉ2 again does well with The Young Offenders, if you though RTÉ would have plans for RTÉ2 you'd be wrong reading the inital RTÉ Strategy. First Dates had 165,000 with Don't Tell the Bride getting 90,000 viewers. Again showing that when you have Irish Programming it largely works.

Sport took up most of RTÉ2 also this week with Champions League getting 290,000 viewers v TV3's 266,000 viewers on Tuesday Night.

    Under 20's Rugby had 103,000 viewers V 6 nations coverage on TV3 getting 357,000 viewers, Women's 6 Nations had 75,000 viewers v TV3 554,000 for the men's match.

Again all figure are Adults only.

Looks like the live shows will begin on the 19th March according to the latest digiguide listings. 8:00 IGT 10:00 Corrie 10:30 IGT Results.
Very late to have a results show in my opinion, for such a family orientated show.
In my opinion, 7:30 IGT 9:00 Corrie 9:30 IGT 10:00 Corrie would be better.
These may change, and might be earlier for the rest of the week.

Top 20 Programmes Released For Week Ending 4/Mar/2018

Interesting to see some rises for programmes throughout the Storm, and one particular rating which is quite extraordinary.

For RTE1 - No seemingly increase in figures for The Late Late Show (461,000), increasing only by 11,000 from last week. Big increases though for Prime Time on Thursday (413,000), Eastenders (337,000) and Ear To The Ground (310,000)

RTE2 saw good figures for Home And Away from Wed-Fri, with a high of 118,000 on Thursday. The Young Offenders doing remarkably well with 243,000 viewers. I'm sure the overall figure is bigger when every age group is included. Oddest addition to the Top 20 is the film shown at 2:10pm on Sunday - Baby's Day Out with 57,000.

On TV3 - looks like The Tonight Show got their highest rating so far - 158,000 on the Wednesday night. However, the most surprising rating of them all - sees a programme which is broadcast at 10:30am lasting 2 hours appearing in TV3's Top 20 - This Morning. On Friday morning it got an audience of 141,000.

Medialive don't take the News broadcasts into account on the weekly reports, but we will find out next month when they release their monthly stats.

Interesting that even when The Late Late Show basically can't put a show together, with no audience or guests etc... several hundred thousand people will still watch it. They can have any rubbish on it and get away with it. Is there something wrong with Irish viewers?

RTE press office said last Thursday's 6.1 had 800,000 viewers.
