I think that's the best KO so far, absolutely savage! You should submit it to EA UFC Twitter page and tag Geoff Harrower he seems to like mid air ko's

Jumping on board late in the thead. Cheapest place I see to buy is Smyths at €60.

Never got to play the beta bit I liked ufc 2 but it got a little stale after a few weeks. Worth a punt?

Really enjoying UFC 3 over the weekend. Perfect for when I only have a short space of time.

The fight pace is so much better compared to UFC 2. I fought with Justin Gaethje vs Michael Johnson and had a ferocious round 1 just like the real fight.

I tried submission only mode in an attempt to learn and did not find it great, Maia had a hard time submitting CM Punk and Ferguson straight up couldn't submit McGregor. I wonder in a normal fight would submissions be easier cause you could drain their stamina first?

Stand and Bang mode is great but you can't do anything when they get knocked down to finish it (Understandable though).

My missus hates when I have the TV taken over with it, but when I threw on Knockout mode Snoop had her in stitches :D

Been plugging away at Ultimate Team the last while. I have a load of gold fighters already, very easy to get now. Got one from the No Love sets, and packed 3 more. So along with my gold pre-order GSP, I’ve gold Henderson, Poirier, Jon Jones, Alvarez and a CAF (completed a set to get that). Just need a gold for WBW now and I’ll be all set. :D

If you buy the No Love packs, there’s a good chance you’ll pull one. Seem to get one every third or fourth pack.

Spent most of weekend on this but just can't get into it. The original EA MMA game was one of my favourites ever but just can't warm to this. Think I'll cut my losses while can get a few bob back. Happy fighting fellas.

Not a CAF to be seen. Really dont know why they went with the real fighters in UT this year, takes away from it and there are enough modes to play as them

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,379 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

I’d probably use a CAF if I could actually get one with the style I want. It’s near impossible.

Besides, UT across every EA game has been about collecting real athletes. EA UFC 2 was the outlier, it was nice while it lasted but this is the way things are going to be from now on I guess. I’m not going to complain about Jon Jones and his reach absolutely wrecking people online. ;)

All the other games make sense as they are team based sports. They shoe horned UT into this purely to make money off packs but you could at least still have CAFs fighting each other. Now you cant even have a CAF without getting a card first off and by them limiting the weight classes you cant have your team the way you want it. They have put too many restrictions on it. Its still the mode illplay the most but these changes were unecessary and i dont consider them improvements

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,379 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

I don’t consider them improvements either, not by a long way, but the game is only out a few days and things will change to some degree. They added in a few features out of the blue in UT last time around in patches, so until then I’ll enjoy it for what it is. And it is still enjoyable, solo challenges are a great addition, some are really difficult but I’m glued to them and the rewards are decent. Getting rid of fitness cards is another massive plus, never ran out but they were tedious to keep applying every couple of fights.

Fitness cards for sure, that was a pain in the ass adding one every second fight

Nice one! Must've been a serious grind getting those tokens and fighters to trade no? I got Jones there but don't think I could get enough tokens for another.

It was a bit of a grind alright, but I packed gold Dustin and silver Miesha (have gold Hendo and Alvarez too but don’t have room for them) so it wasn’t too bad. There’s 40 NL tokens available altogether, just got the last of them a while ago. Used the first 25 to craft Jones and the last 15 to upgrade Miesha to gold. I don’t know how far up I can go from here but the champion set cards are 4 stars so that’s probably the aim now. I’m three fighters away from completing Cormier and need four more for McGregor.

Back to the challenges, there’s a trick for all of them if you have the patience. Which ones are you stuck on?

Are the no love packs worth using my 500 UFC points? Holding them for special packs but not sure if I should hold out (for when I get proper time with it). My McGregor gold card is very tempting to use but I just don't like the idea of using pro's. Cafs should definitely be easier to come by then real fighters.

It’s hard to say tbh. If you want to get a good start on the game, there’s a high drop rate for No Love fighters (if you get a silver you can upgrade it to gold with some work). I blew mine on them already and don’t regret it, but there might be a nice event pack coming this weekend for UFC 221.

I'll come back to you on that once I give a look. Haven't done any submission ones anyway haha, don't think my fighter has an armbar for rousey. Can't stand not being able to see where I'm at with regards to the targets throughout the fight.

I can't really get my head around it, I always feel like I'm at some kind of disadvantage in UT, like if my opp has better ground stats I feel helpless. Also came across a fighter with 80s and 90s in grappling AND striking. How do you actually increase your stats beyond the 70s? His equipped moves weren't dissimilar to mine but he lit me up naturally enough. Once I understand the mode and what I need to be doing to progress I think I'll be able to get in to it, but at the moment I just feel I'm playing it blindly.

I haven’t come across a fighter that highly rated yet, thank god. :pac:
I’m guessing that’s one of the 4 star champions cards though, has to be. My gold cards have either striking or grappling at 81/82 when I apply moves to them and a good split between stamina and health. Unless you get incredibly lucky with packs I can’t imagine having any stat higher than 83.

A good tip to progress quickly is to play offline championships to get used to your fighters. Unlike UFC 2, you don’t earn less coins or fewer level up points which is very handy. Put good bonus contracts onto your fighters, light up the AI for as long as possible (really drag it out, plenty of sig. strikes and takedowns, sub attempts etc.) and you’ll be earning a nice amount of coins. Just sink it all into packs (or hold on for special packs) and you’ll steadily improve your fighters. Chemistry doesn’t matter a jot from what I’ve read, so ignore it and apply the best cards you can for a balanced fighter. If you’re handy against the AI, you should be able to buy a 5k pack every sixth or seventh fight and you’ll get the odd basic pack for levelling up. It’s going to be a grind for the time being though.

Yeah I might just forget about chem. And the fighter was a gold 3*, can't remember who it was though, wish I took a photo or something

And as for those pesky submission challenges, you’ll need a Specialist fighter in WBW and WW unless you have armbar and RNC cards.

It’s not those you should be worried about though, it’s the insane level on Garbrandt that’ll have you in tears. Trust me. :D

Do you reckon Balanced is the best style of fighter for UT? Definitely I think striker is the worst because if you've a stat disadvantage on the ground you're in real trouble. My McGregor wouldn't stuff a takedown to save his life

Sorry I misworded that. I meant that you should be trying to balance your fighter’s stats and not leave any weaknesses. The only balanced I’m running now is Jones and he’s pretty good. I’ll take a grappler over him any day though, started using Miesha an hour ago and she’s unreal. 94 top game on her too with certain cards applied, I’d advise trying something like that if you’ve the cards for it, pure ground cheese FTW. :pac:

Yeah definitely grapplers seem the way to go, might have to ditch my Conor if I find a LW grappler :P I've Cormier and Jones at HW both balanced :( Why do you reckon single player is better for UT than online?

Well it’s just a hell of a lot easier once you figure out the AI patterns. In UT there are only so many types of fighter you’ll come up against distinct fighter styles aren’t there because the fighters are just skins basically. Also, if you want to get a load of fights done and build up coins and level points quickly, offline is a no-brainer because load times are much quicker and you can skip through all the crap.

That’s only if you’re grinding for progress though, going online is definitely the best challenge and the most way you’ll improve at the game. I get owner every second game online, but the odd time I learn something so it’s worth it.

Managed to complete every No Love challenge, had enough tokens to get the silver Tate and Upgrade her to Gold to go alongside my No Love Jones, Romero at Middleweight and Conor at LW :D

Yeah took me a good few tries, definitely one of the toughest. That and the Alvarez combos on hard and insane were v tough. He ducks all the head kicks killing the stamina. Found it very hard to land but got there in the end, ddn't really have much of a strategy. Rousey armbar was actually handy, got all 3 done in round 1 with a bronze grappler. Just stuck everything on sub offence and ended up with 100 top game too.
