Police Certificate for job in Germany / EU

Hello all,

I've just been offered a job in Germany today, which I'm due to start next month.

However, the position requires me to have a police certificate, and after checking up on the Garda Síochána and Citizens Information websites, the latter states that I can only obtain such a certificate if I'm applying for a Visa or registering a business, both of which I'm not.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever found themselves in a similar predicament and if so, what did they have to do in order to get the certificate?

The Garda site doesn’t seem to apply any restrictions. They only ask the purpose of the cert.
