    Can this be true?

If it is, it would appear that it's another faux pas by SINN Fein following on the Kingsmill sliced pan incident.

A party who it was difficult to lay a glove on up to this seems to have 'pulled the ripcord' ?

First it's wee Barry and O'Muilleoir

    Then auld Dessie

Now it appears that Jerry has cracked.

    What's going on here.

There was someone else (a councillor) suspended for 6 months. Can't recall her name.

But it's ok...there's no problems in SF and they will be in government next time.....just saving the shinners from posting :D

Forgot to say.... we're all SF haters ;)

If it belonged to one of the many private clamping companies that consistently gouge the public and operate under very grey legal area's, be the politician unionist/nationalist or any other persuasion I say good on them - well done - high five.

You can see the angle of the article, from who was morally outraged on Twitter to who was calling for his resignation.

    Anyway. Well done Gerry Kelly.

If however it was council clampers then bad Gerry Kelly. I would ramp my outrage meter up to 11 if it went that far.

Grey legal areas in the clamping arena?

What kind of places are these?

Seems strange that a prominent lad in SINN Fein would leave himself open in that situation.

Doesn't seem to be too sure as it would appear he has 'disappeared' for a while.

His mistake was not making the clamp disappear.

Here's an idea Brenner - up in the search area of the site, type out "private clampers" and enlighten yourself.

Like I said. If Ian paisley emerged from the sod himself and removed a clamp from those **** - I'd applaud him myself.

Fair play to him. Private clamping is a disgrace and all citizens should endeavour to resist them.

    Removed a clamp. The horror.

Great stroke of luck all the same - having the bolt-cutter handy in the boot of the car at the time.

What sort of example is the party spokesperson on policing making when he is pictured allegedly breaking the law with a large pair of boltcutters breaking / taking off a wheel clamp?

Interesting to note that despite the AH rule on no political threads that there's 3 shinner bashing threads on the front page

    Funny old game this eh?

Keeping up the image of thugs in suits.

Did he break the law? Private clamping is a grey area in many jurisdictions

I can't stand SF, would never vote for them but this smacks as a media circus over nothing

John, forgive me for being a bit pedantic, but the clampers are either legal or they are not.

I suppose we will have to wait for the 'court case' to establish that.

Mary Lou is stepping into a bit of turbulence here as a lot of her 'subjects' seem to think they are above the law?

For a party who were Teflon clean in the very recent past it looks like the mask may be slipping a bit.

Surprised that an experienced punter like Kelly would 'do a Barry' as it were.

Not like he shot the lock off with his Armalite then kidnapped the clamper.

    Fair play to him.

It's been reported to the PSNI so time will tell.

Kelly is SFs Police and Justice spokesman, so this might have legs. He's also on the policing board, so we potentially have a man who oversees the police and leads SF policy on justice blatantly breaking the law.

It's mental, the anti Sinn Feinn crowd will literally champion anyone from loyalist paramilitaries to car clampers to spite the party.brainwashed and amusing.

Fair play to him, clamper's are scumbags.

O'rdinary lads doing a job, Mak, just like you an me.

    Bit harsh there.

Sin Fein want jam on both sides of their bread.
But they're going to have to choose between the bolt cutters and the ballot box.

We don't know for sure - that's why I say 'potentially' , but the clampers have made a complaint to the PSNI, so time will tell.

This is a minor transgression and the sensible way for Kelly to deal with it is to take the sting out of it with a fullsome mea culpa, but as is often the case with politicians, they try to brazen it out. That's what I predict here unfortunately.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Like I said, private clampers operate under an extremely grey area of the law.

I will doff my cap to Gerry Kelly on this one - the more people that do likewise the better.

    Did he break the law?

I'd say if he removed the clamp and in the process damaged it then maybe yes. The clamping company mentioned 'criminal damage'. If he had got it off without damaging it (which can be done btw) then the company (a private one) would have little come back I reckon.

Parking in a no-parking area, with double yellow lines, then damaging private property ??

What if everyone ignored double yellow lines?

As someone asked, "Is Gerry special, above the rules that apply to you and me?"

Grey area of the law, John.

Could you back up that assertion with a tad of evidence.

I should have put it on quotes...my bad :D.
I was referring to SF supporters saying that about the rest of us who see them for what they are!

Not a fan of presenting evidence I'd say.
