Leaving aside her obvious health issues regarding the voice and coughing etc, her research and quality of questioning has been atrocious for years now. Comes across as lazy and a couldnt be bothered type of attitude.

I have a problem with this thread because it’s populated by certain people whose criticisms seem to have a misogimistic vein.

Despite that, I concede Finucane’s faults: she is intellectually lightweight, badly prepared and has poor communication and presentation skills (surely essential for a current affairs presenter?). But her programme can be entertaining. In my opinion she’s a somewhat dignified presence and she’s able to foster and control good conversation between her guests, which is maybe all that’s required on a weekend show. She’s also, it has to be said, very popular in some quarters. For me, her limitations only become problematic when you pay her €300k (formerly €570k) and she stridently defends her worth (“it makes me angry” that people say she only works four hours a week) on the basis of extensive research.

Let's see how Marian's bullet point approach to political journalism flies with Farage.

This is embarrassing. She’s barely able to comprehend him. You can practically hear her brain cells struggling furiously to keep up.

"We were looking up the CSO figures and it's about ... thirrrrrr...... ty ... per cent... eh"

I can picture one of the researchers outside the glass, holding up three fingers on one hand and trying to make a percentage symbol with the other.

Marian is just phoning it in at this stage. It’s clear she does F all research and prep. Seems to just rock up to these interviews and just talk off the top of her head -mainly cliche ridden nonsense- and often misremembering even basic details. Shame on her.

My favourite Nigel Farage moment ever... (with him climbing out of the crashed plane as a close second) :D

Marian on the ropes there...typical RTE ‘stick to the cue cards’ bullet points questioning. Don’t think she expected Farage to be, god forbid, PREPARED for an interview.

She can't even laugh with Farage , whatever your opinion on his ideas he does have an entertaining way of putting things across , but no Marian is all dead-pan with him , Herself and Hilary Clinton would finish off a case of chardonnay in an afternoon at this stage .

"The death of another young man", says she with sadness in her voice.

You'd think he was an innocent bystander.

Any time I see Welsh Megaman posting here I think how great it is to be a European. Otherwise the poor guy would only have Welsh radio and TV. And if he's watching and listening to RTE, think how bad the Welsh stuff must be!!!

"Do you know somebody who works in the company?"

In what interview was he asked that now? The guy has excuses for everything. There was a guy in college with me who was from Darndale, and he was the most respectable in the class, and he was a top student as well. A real great guy. He didn't let being from Darndale hold him back.

The only thing holding Paul back are his perceptions of himself .

She's being a tad condescending to him alright.

a lot of those ' little towns ' were never real towns , just a gathering of hovels around a pub, petrol station and church.

He kept repeating "we have to incentivise people to rural areas".

Panel tried to throw him a bone with the focus on smaller cities as hubs for the more rural areas.

Ha ha, had to laugh at that one. She's absent more than present and instead of a kick up the arse she gets a ridiculous salary for doing absolutely nothing except moan that she doesn't understand and would you explain that to the listener please because I sure as hell don't understand any of it ( cough cough, apres match 2002 ). I used to enjoy her "down home" manner ( I live in Spain ) but right now I'm getting more and more tired of her patronizing drivel. Time she was put out to grass.
