Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Massive shock with Tralee having to travel to Belfast and beating Queens.

I thought there was a rule if the two colleges were over 200km away it would be played at a neutral venue.

    Fitzgibbon Cup Result yesterday
Mary I 1-20 NUIG 2-16. It was a massive victory for Mary I. A draw would have done NUIG to go through but Mary I needed a win and clinched the victory with the last puck of the game. Conor Whelan (Galway) scored 2-5 for NUIG as well as the Mannion brothers also being prominent for them. While for Mary I Aaron Gillane (Limerick) was accurate from frees as well as Luke Meade (Cork), Tim O'Mahony (Cork) and Gary Cooney (Clare) and Cian Lynch (Limerick) were also good for the Mary I men.

Fitzgibbon Quarter Final Draws are as follows:

    UL v UCC
    IT Carlow v LIT
    DCU v Mary I
    UCD v DIT.

Tight game in Austin Stack Park.

DIT lead ITT 0-5 to 0-3 after 25mins.

EDIT: My bad 2 quick goals from Enda Flanagan and DIT lead 2-6 to 0-3.

2-10 to 0-4 now in favour of DIT.

David Clifford obviously a massive loss up front but DIT are dominating all over the park.

Gavin Crowley replaced at Half Time another massive loss.

The GAA have to sort out this mess, either lock these lads down to play college only at this the peak time for these competitions or else just let it continue and burn these lads out.

David Clifford injured after playing three games in a week and now I heard Gavin Crowley went off at half time tonight as well,

DCU have never been in a final so that's a first. 8 of the players used last night are Dubs which is a good sign. UCD have great record obviously but very few Dublin players have played with them over the years. None this year if I am correct.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Live on TG4 Sport on youtube.

NUIG flew out of the blocks and were the width of the post away from being 1-5 to 0-1 up but UCD went down the field and Conor McCarthy scored a goal.

All UCD since really. But a big free right on half time. has things all square 0-8 to 1-5.

McCarthy has started for UCD with 1-3.

Damian Comer and Adam Gallagher look good for NUIG.

Con has been a bit of a passenger so far and missed a 30 yard free but still a half to go and with his talent i'm sure he'll have an impact.

Jaysus Jack Barry destroyed his man there. Long time since I've seen a legitimate shoulder like that.

Goal for NUIG and on with Kieran Molloy!

    Awful awful goalkeeping mistake.

Molloy on for NUIG. Some shift he's putting in today.

McCarthy has been standout forward for UCD who were fortunate to be all square at HT.

    Cracking contest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Con has put in a far better 2nd half. NUIG 2-8 to 1-10 up.

UCD the better team but some woeful free taking and an awful goalkeeping mistake has them behind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Massive score from Conor McCarthy and its level.

    2-8 to 1-11

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

    Is that a penalty?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

UCD win by a point. Fully deserved.

Liam Casey getting the last 2 points and a black card late in the game.

Con O'Callaghan came back and played the Ciaran Kilkenny role late and held onto the ball well for UCD to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,372 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

NUIG will regret the bad miss when they hit the post. Ball cleared down the field and UCD got their goal from it.

Good quality game though. No defensive blanket to be seen anyway.

I have just seen the betting on Paddy Power for the Fitzgibbon final. UL are 1/12 and DCU are 13/2. I havent followed the Fitz too closely this year and I know the bookies rarely get it too wrong but are those odds not a bit extreme? Are UL really that overwhelming favourites?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 917 ✭✭✭Stationmaster

To be honest, I thought UL would be an even shorter price than that. They have an exceptional team on paper compared to DCU and should win it pulling up.

Fantastic record from Coen, Minor and U21 winning captain and now Sigerson. Top player and a very unassuming lad. Hope he gets his time now with the seniors

Unbelievable achievement. He should be very proud of what he has done in the past 4 or 5 years of his GAA career. And he is still only about 23. I don't think he will be the type of player that will make headlines like Keegan, Higgins etc. But I do think he will become an important player for Mayo from next year on. He is playing decently for Mayo, but I do think that he is getting a bit caught up in the occasion – seems like he is trying too hard, seems a bit nervous. But hopefully that will pass with a bit of experience. I hear he has unbelievable dedication and commitment. It’s not by accident that he is captain of those three names teams by Yop.

Apparently DIT's goalkeeper Mark Jackson had a fairly bad neck injury in a challenge game vs the Wicklow senior panel this evening (he's also the Wicklow senior goalkeeper). Match abandoned and taken to hospital. Never like hearing a neck/back one.
