LED TV for 4K consoles?

    Are modern big LED TVs any good for 4K gaming? (Xbox One X, or PS4 Pro)

    I just bought a LG 55SJ810V, and it looks great for Netflix (UHD / Dolby Vision) but for gaming I think I've made a bad choice. I've been playing on a (1080p) PS4 so far:
    • If I play in non "Games Mode", it looks ok but everything stutters/breaks up when I turn rapidly. (Actually gives me a headache after a while)
    • If I play in "Games Mode", it's smoother but it's really horribly blurred. PS4 games look like PS2.

    I don't know if there's any point in upgrading to one of the "4K" consoles if the TV is just going to make everything look blurred, or stutter.

    Are all big LEDs the same, or did I just pick a bad model? (No idea about OLED for gaming, but they were out of my price range anyway).

    No, not all big LEDs are the same.

    You've got an edge lit HDR 8 model (and possibly RGBW knowing LG) there so it's nowhere near top end - barely mid-range, unfortunately.

    I've said quite a bit on the xbox forum that the lowest range TV that I would purchase for the last year is the Sony XE9005 which about now could be picked up for €1,000. Otherwise it's just not really worth going for a 4k model. The cheaper TVs just don't have the spec or processing power to do it properly, a lot of niggly issues will have to overlooked.

    Good to know, thanks. I did keep an eye out for the refresh rate, thinking that might indicate better suitability for gaming. Funnily enough in-store that TV was marked as 200Hz, but looking online at the specs they state 120Hz.

    I'm sure a lot of people could be similarly caught out - buy a One X / PS4 Pro and hook it up to their new(ish) 4K TV only to find it's the TV that isn't up to spec.

    Thanks for the recommendation.. I'll know better in ~5 years time when I upgrade again! :)
